Law & Ethics - June 2006

The senate will probably vote this week on the repeal of estate tax. If estate tax is repealed or even partly repealed then the 200 richest familes in the US will benefit greatly. At the same time 65,000 citizens, mainly children, will lose health insurance due to reductions in Medicare. Does this reinforce the view that US society is driven by greed and self interest.

Although the police say Kennedy appeared intoxicated, higher ups ordered them to drive him home. He was never given a breathalyser test. He claimed he was going to a congressional meeting at 2:00 A.M. Are the Kennedy's above the law, and what do you think should have happened?

You have to wear your seatbelt, because seatbelts "save lives". But you can still smoke a cigarette and drive. Is that not enough proof that the "law" makers don't give a rat's a$$ about your safety?

*According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), an estimated 5,500 lives could be saved each year by increasing the level of safety belt use in the United States to 90 percent. Yet, only 68 percent of Americans wear safety belts.

*Every year over 179,000 people die of smoking related heart disease.
*Over 159,000 die of cancer.
*Over 80,000 people die of other smoking related causes, ranging from emphysema to fires.
**Each year, smoking kills more people than AIDS, alcohol, drug abuse, car crashes, murder, suicides, and fires -- combined!

So, be sure to buckle-up before you fire up that butt!

You're vacationing with your spouse in a foreign country for 2 weeks, and in the middle of the night you find a wallet. Nobody is with you. The identification in the wallet shows that it belongs to a citizen of another country. In the wallet is an amount of money that nearly equals what you will end up paying for your vacation. What would you do with the wallet and it's contents?

I'm sick and tired of all these lying politicians that claim to be pro-God, pro-family, and pro-troops, but couldn't be further from the truth. Just look at Bush's own family, they're a decadent mess! His actions speak louder than words. Despite his promises, he's done nothing to strengthen American families, nothing to overturn Roe vs. Wade, nothing to fight and reduce crime, nothing to get rid of racist practices like affirmative action. As governor in Texas, he sentenced innocent people to death which is one of the least christian things anyone can do. To top it off he's trashing God's planet, and allowing people to continue to die in Iraq. I'm sick of all these lying Republicans. The only difference between the two parties today is that Republicans claim to have moral values but don't and Democrats don't even bother to claim so. They're all sleazy and corrupt, at least the ones in office. If there's any that aren't and are a future hope to morally improve our nation, please tell.

Is it possible to break a state law but still be with in the limits of a U.S law? That maybe would over ride a state law by looking at the Adments? Im sure i spelled that wrong. I was told we were in the limits of the U.S laws and codes but then found out i had broke a state law and they arent even looking at the US laws or Codes why not? How can something be both legal and not legal

My mother and father were married only once and I am one of only two sons. My father passed away without leaving a will. My brother and I agree we want everything to go to our mom, not claiming any inheritance, until our mother passes away. My father had some royalty that was seperate property that we want our mother to have until she passes. The only other property is come acreage that was held in common. Can a statement be made to this extent in a Affidavit of Heirship? If so, what would some example verbiage be? This is the state of Texas.

My neighbor got a termination of lease because while her teenage daughter was being assaulted by another neighbor's teenage kids, her daughter cursed at them. The neighbor's teenage kids attacked her with a pipe and knife, fondled her private parts, and threatened to rape her. Her teenage daughter is recovering from her injuries and is an emotional wreck. My neighbor is currently trying to get disability because she has a lot of medical problems and hasn't been able to work in over a year. This is low income housing and you cannot get low income housing again for 3 years after an eviction, and she has no where else to go right now because she doesn't have income. The landlord took the other neighbor's word for what happened because there were several people against her daughter even though the daughter had injuries. This other neighbor has been a problem since they've moved here and one of their kids has assaulted my own child and my daughter can't play outside since they moved here.

In my opinion traffic tickets seem to be primarily after your money. Fining you various and unreasonable amounts of money such as 500 dollars for no turn signal but 230 for speeding in school zone. Shouldn't they rather make you go to a traffic class probate or suspend you license for a while, wouldn't that be more relevant and effective to take away one's driving privilages than to hit you in the pocket whichs hurts the economy and making people get desperate to scrap for money and have to appear in court six weeks later only to end up paying the fine?

It was obvious stan had really made some major changes in his life during his 24 years on death row,i think he should have been set free.
