Yes, every citizen of the USA is an American. It's unfair to the Canadians and Mexicans, who also live in North America, but that has been the tradition almost since the beginning of the USA.

Is this one of those "I'm American too cause I live in South America" things? That's gettin kind of old. People in the U.S. call themselves American's because it's short for "United States of America". What are we supposed to call ourselves? "USAers"
People from Mexico are "Mexican" people from Russia are "Russian" That's all it is, nothing more. People from South America should worry more about why their continent was named after a European rather than what people in the U.S. call themselves.
