it wont be because the USA is politically against it ,there have been many studies with positive outcomes and all have been ignored by a sucession of Presidents.

before 1920 marijuana was extensively grown by the USA and Mexico for the production of fibre.which made a durable material, cheap and it does not scorch, that was used for all the jeans, ropes, sails for the sailing ships and millions of jute bags that were used by millions of farmers, representing a multimillion dollars business.

after 1920 with the coming of synthetic materials, which were products of the petrolium business ,which were owned by the families or associates of most of the presidents,

this competitive comodity could not be allowed to continue to exist,
and the war on Mariujana was on.

the drug factor although it has been proven beyond doubt by countless tests that it was a relative harmless substance compared to sigarettes, alcohol and others, was blatently ignored and relentlessly the war continued to this day.
although it does worry the church, since people tended to stay up all night and question religious and philosohical beliefs.some times coming to uncomplementary conclusions of what was socially accepted.

alcohol puts people to sleep and they dont question the given standards.

today Mariujana fibre is making a come back in Europe and Africa and produce designer pantalons and shirts for very high prices because the quality is superior than linnen.

these fibre plants do not produce drugs to speak of and are worthless for the drug market .it is the fibre that is the value.

and organically speaking it is an exelent plant to recuporate tired soils ,after cattle and corn field have practically destroyed the land, because the plant is deep rooted grows on most altitudes, and breaks open or loosens compacted soils as well as secreting nitrogen..

Should be legalized for both, and likely soon will be. As an experienced pot-head, I not only have the medical and scientific knowledge of the stuff, but also the first hand experience it requires to make an educated decision on the matter.

When you go drinking on the weekend, you can drink too much, be a complete ***, failing down drunk, can't speak, could have killed someone in the night and wake up puking, not remembering any of it.......even with the most 'experienced' alocholic. You can even die from alcohol poisioning.

This will never happen on Marijuana. Fact. Somtimes looking back on things, they can be a bit fuzzy, but you would not do something (like killing someone ect....) that you would never do sober, on pot.

Depending on your experience with the drug and how much you have 'taken', you can be stoned and "not intoxicated". I can go to work stoned with little to no problem. If I were to have a shot or two, there would be problems.

Also, you can't die from pot. Some people think you can, but it's impossible. If you eat lots (like, probably your body weight) (which noone can afford or would want to do that) it might be possible, but it's more likely that you would pass out before being able to eat that much. You cannot smoke so much pot that it kills you (other than lung cancer and such....no more than smoking tobacco). You'll smoke yourself sober before that happens.

There are three major considerations here that are based on three often competing claims. These claims are:

-Marijuana is a "gateway" drug which, even though it may not be as hard core and addictive as crystal meth or cocaine, it leads people to those much harder drugs.

-Marijuana use is dangerous and marijuana must be outlawed
because it is a drug.

-Marijuana has few side effects and the positive aspects of it more than outweigh the negative ones. People suffering from medical ailments have been treated with much success with marijuana.

The second claim, that marijuana use is dangerous and that because it is a drug it must be outlawed is false. Most studies show that 1. Marijuana use is not addictive. 2. Marijuana use does not permanently alter brain chemistry like heroin or other drugs and 3. Marijuana smoke itself is no more dangerous than cigarette smoke. It is odd that highly addictive- and damaging- drugs like alcohol and cigarettes are perfectly legal while marijuana- which is even less addictive than alcohol or cigarette use- is not.

As far as the first claim, many psychologists, social workers, and medical practitioners argue that there is a much higher than average incidence of hardcore drug use among those who have smoked marijuana in the past. While this correlation is true, correlation does not necessarily imply causation. It may be perfectly true that people who tend to smoke, drink and do drugs have an underlying proclivity to do other types of drugs, some hardcore. But this issue needs to be investigated with greater objectivity. Furthermore, we do not know the consequences of legalizing a drug like marijuana. Some would argue that legalizing the drug would make it more socially acceptable, encouraging people to use it. Would this open the floodgates for young people to try more hardcore drugs, or will this greater level of freedom also come with greater self responsibility. There are good claims on both sides.

Finally, we cannot dispute that marijuana does have medicinal properties, but as with any medical drug, the FDA has a responsibility to make sure that the drug is used properly. Legalizing marijuana across the board would diminish the regulatory function, since the drug would be available for non-medicinal purposes as well (potentially as an over-the-counter "herb"). But the benefits of marijuana must be compared to the concerns over its gateway effect, and the only way to determine this would be to have studies done on its legalization. Unfortunately, Republicans and even some Democrats refuse to conduct objective, scientific studies, fearing that the public will accuse them of catering to drug addicts and dealers. For example, Surgeon General Jocelyn Elders was fired after she suggested, among other things, that objective studies should be carried out on the legalization of marijuana.

Yes, for both!! Why can we legalize alcohol
and think that's ok, but not Marijuana??? Alcohol causes so many crimes and ruins so many peoples lives....for example..

1. Driving Drunk ...if your lucky you don't kill anyone and you get a DUI and dont kill yourself as well, or ...you could kill an innocent driver on the road cause you were drunk...etc..

2. Causes Alcoholisim, and creates addicts too!!

3. Causes many young women, or Men to be caught in sex crimes, or foul play often rape and makes people loose their inhibitions that they would normally care about if sober

4. Causes Violence & Tension among people, couples and especially big crowds of people in one place where drinking is involved...just think back to all the incidents that have occured with huge crowds at some event or another ...where alcohol is available and one person starts off on a tangent about whatever ( mostly something little that breaks the straw off the camel's back ) and if it's one person, then you can easily get the entire crowd of people fighting with each other, or all together against the police or something, or damageing private property..etc...

Do we ever hear of Marijuana users doing crap like that???? No.

If anything I think it might help some people if they did smoke it, cause some people just need to take it down a notch.

What happens when people are stoned?? They eat lot's of grub food, they watch movies or TV that's good or funny to watch, you feel like chillin, and you get tired....and you sure as hell dont want to fght anyone or cause any type of problems whatsoever....so to me....marijuana is better than alcohol...and alcohol is worse!!

Marijuan should be legalized, YES!!

Both. There are so many pro's to Marijuana. First hemp(which is legal) can be used to make rope, bags clothing, jewelery it can get wet and does not mildew. 2- Their are many people who use it for medical reasons for gloccoma, cancer, eating disorders ect.
3- I have never heard of someone O.D.ing killing anyone, or anyother crimes of that nature while high. Unlike achlochol. And for anyone that thinks it is an addictive drug they are wrong. I smoked for 10 years and quit 2years ago with no problem.

marijuana wasn't always illegal and it wasn't until dupont felt threatened by the loss of profit by the use of hemp instead of cotton, which made him a millionaire during that time. So the answer isyes it should be legal, because alcohol is legal, but i guess it's okay for people to die of liver disease and other alclhol related deaths such as drunk driving.

I don't smoke, but I don't drink either. So my opinion is very objective.

I think if they have legalized alcohol they should legalize Mary Jane for both medical & personal.

Mary Jane is not as deadly as alcohol or as addictive.

Definitely for medical use.

Honestly, I don't know enough about impacts for an answer on personal use, but I suspect it is no worse than alcohol. I'd say regulate it like alcohol and cigarettes combined. (I don't want ANY smoke in my face while I'm eating at a restaurant.)

If I ever get a disease that ruins my appetite and makes me constantly nauseous, I am smoking the heck out of some weed. You can throw me in jail if you want.

I don't smoke anything now. I say legalize it and tax the holy hell out of it. Make some money for this country.

It should be legalized - period.

Tobacco is legal - and we know it kills countless thousands of people worldwide.

Liquor is legal - and it kills thousands of people worldwide.

Religion is legal - and it kills thousands of people worldwide.

What harm could Marijuana cause - maybe make some people relax, and eat something crunchy?
