White collar theft , especially against the crown is considered too high a crime in my books. I mean why didn't Prescott go to jail when he didn't pay his council tax? As for road deaths the law is being changed and not soon enough.

It depends on intention. If you deliberately kill someone in England, you'll be jailed for life. I don't know why this guy got 9 months, but presumably there was an accident and he was considered careless.
The tax evader had been deliberately arranging his affairs to hide the money he owed, and the court didn't believe he couldn't raise the cash - and surprise surprise, as soon as he was convicted he found he had the £18,000 after all.

That's nothing a guy ran over and killed a little girl a few months back and drove away from the scene only to turn himself in later on nthe advice of his lawyer - he got off so lightly that I have lost all faith in the British legal system.
The reason why tax evasion is so serious: “The country was founded on the principle that the primary role of government is to protect property from the majority, and so it remains.” - Noam Chomsky. Basically the government is designed to make money more important than people.

You will have to look it as each case has its own circumstances,
you can't compare two totally different areas of criminal law and put them side by side, It does not work like that, but i know in the mind of public all they see the crime and punishment.
The government is not responsible for every current law, but i agree laws need updating such , Offences against the person act 1841, Murder needs to legislated for it currently isn't! Its a common law offence. All these things are being worked in the background but you never hear about it.

Its all nonsense I agree, causing death by dangerous driving should carry a life sentence or at least 15 years, it doesnt matter if it wasnt intentional, the bloke should have been more careful on the road, any mug will tell you that!

think our laws go back to the horse and cart and we're still putting the cart first. They say if you wanna kill someone and do as little time for it as possible then get behind the wheel of a car.
