If murder is wrong, then how can states justify murdering the murderer? I think in some cases some criminals deserve to die...however I believe that is too easy of a punishment...I believe they should just be locked in a small, windowless room with a hole in the floor to use the bathroom for the rest of their lives. No excercize...no tv...no mail..no human contact at all...bread and water to sustain them, but nothing more...let them die alone in a dark room and then burn the body.

I am anti-death penalty because I believe not only is it wrong, but it is also ineffective. There are too many people being executed for crimes they didn't commit. I personally believe that someone needs to be locked up for the rest of their lives so that they may suffer with remembering what they did. Lethal Injection is the easy way out.

In addition, if people live by the "eye for an eye" philosphy, then the killing would never end. The executioner would be just as guilty for taking someones life. If someone has an abortion, it is not the mother that kills the fetus, it is a doctor that does it, so does the doctor get the death penalty? If people want to live by the bible, then they need to LIVE by the bible, don't just pick and choose what parts you want to use against people, just because you don't agree with it.

In other words, the death penalty is not a solution.

I agree with the previous answer. It is important to maintain the precious sanctity of life and the purity of earth. However, I do have a problem with people getting the death penalty on circumstantial evidence and if they maintain their innocence... because we really can't be positive that they did it. I believe that innocent people have been executed so I would say yes to the death penalty if there is direct evidence or if the person confesses otherwise, no deal.

Yes, I do believe in it. Why should people who molest, rape and murder get free food, free clothes, free medical and free dental care, free Internet, free cable, free gyms, and a list of other things for free when the law-abiding have to work for them, and if we cannot afford them, we have to do without?

And by the way - the death penalty is not murder. What do you do when you have a vicious animal? You put it down, right? Same with the death penalty, you are just putting down something vicious.

The only other alternative would be to use them for testing instead of the innocent animals.

I do. Morally and biblically you can find stuff in the Bible that either supports the concept (i.e.,"an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth") or that argues against it ("Turn the other cheek.") However, I don't have a problem with this. I think the series of appeals that is involved is appropriate because you need to be really sure before you go there. I mean, you can let somebody out of prison if you later discover you were wrong, but.....(do I need to complete this thought?)

For anyone who says that the death penalty is ineffective, they need to ask themselves: "How many more crimes will an executed criminal commit?" The answer is none.

Some people commit crimes so awful that they forfeit thier right to live in our society. Case in point: Al Zarqawi. I bet you he never beheads another innocent person again.

I didn't until I saw a case on a friends tv news.
Two men stole a car. The female drivers car seat
got hooked up. They drove her body down the road
hitting fence post to try to get her off the car. They
did, and left her infant baby in a car seat, in the
middle of the road. They had the two men on cam
as they walked by her house when she put the baby
on the back seat.
I WANT TO FLIP THAT SWITCH. PLEASE...

Yes. There are plenty of cases where the guilt of the murderer has been proven beyond a doubt. Those people need to be sent to Judgement. Same with violent serial rapists and pedophiles.
