Well, maybe not for the first time in his life, but for me! So the humidity level is about 50-60%, he's got a good-size bowl of water he can go in (but hasn't yet), and he heat is perfect.. SO..how long is this process? His eyes just got clouded over and his belly is turning a pinkish color. Is there anything I should know about this process that's really important for his health? Like.. well... I think I have everything covered but just to be sure...

I have purchased a couple of the expensive warming lights for my red eared slider, and they burn out within a week. I have just been using regular light bulbs to warm him.
Does anyone have tips for better lights. I am using the special reflective fixture you buy for the lights, but they just keep going out. Regular bulbs last fairly well, so I don't think the fixture is the problem.

Well, to start off,i've had my my desert phase california kingsnake for only a few months and he's being VERY agressive. It just finished shedding and it wasn't bad before it shedded but mow it's bad. I can't even put my hand in the cage without it hiding or trying to bite me. Sometimes when i used to pick him up, he wiuld wrap his tal around me and whipe this wet stuff on my hand. He was perfectly fine for the first like 2 or 3 weeks but now hes just so agressive. I'm not really scared or anything because his mouth isnt big eanough to get around my finger but i want to break the habit before he gets big eanough to actually do harm. Please help me out and tell me how to make my snake nicer and happier. I feed him about twice a week and i have a big, natural invironment in his cage. Obviously i have never hurt him either.

We recently bought 2 tarantulas a few weeks ago, and although I have held them a few times I still get really nervous when I pick tem up. One is a Rosehair, and we were told by the petshop the other is a Pink Salmon Birdeater, but my husband has been researching tarantulas lately and says he's not totally convinced that's what it is. I've been reading forums about "T"s, and I have read a few times that people will post something like "when they lift their backside up, I know it's time to put it down". I know they're fangs are attached to their head, obviously, so what does that have to do with being bit? Can spiders sense my nervousness? I want to get used to handling them because they are so fascinating, but I'm afraid I might be so startled if I get bit that I might drop the poor thing and hurt it. Are there any "warning signs" I should watch for? I know eventually I WILL get bit, because it is, after all, a spider. I'm just dreading the 1st time.

please tell me

Today I picked up my first ever California Kingsnake from the pet store. It is young, about 12 inches and seems active, alert and healthy. It has made no effort to hide at all, seems interested in exploring. I have read plenty of information about this snake, although I've read some conflicting advice on some issues. So I am interested in the opinions of those with practical experience keeping this, or a similar snake.

The store had not fed it for a week, so after it had been home for eight hours it seems really hungry and in need of feeding. So I gave it two thawed frozen pinkies which it took great. It has continued to be inquisitive and active ever since.

So here are my questions:

1) How soon should I start handling it to get it nice and tame?
2) How often should I handle it?
3) The humidity of the cage is at 34% is that okay?
4) Does two pinkies twice a week sound reasonable?
5) Any specific tips you'd like to share?

Thank you to any snake experts with some good pointers.

recently bought a veiled chameleon, 3 inchs nose to vent, is it normal for her to rub her eyes on the branches hard, and squish her eyeballs when shedding, it seems like she is going to severly hurt her eyes for the future. they are very red near the edges and i have never seen a chameleon do anything like this, should it raise concern?
