I easily were owned via both Mice & Rats, the biggest adjustments are that Rats are higher and Rats also scent lower than mice. Mice are frequently very stinky, regardless of ideal cage cleansing agenda. Mice are frequently more durable to administration because they're usually extremely jumpy. Mice also are better outfitted to older toddlers because of their length and jumpy nature. Rats are very sensible and would properly be experienced to do maximum issues. also they're an magnificent all round puppy for all age communities, they're higher and not in any respect extremely really straight forward to damage as mice. wish this helps

Most of the answers are wrong. No matter how big a mouse get, it won't become a rat, just a fat mouse. :)

The relationship between a rat and a mouse is more like the relationship between a Saint Bernard and a chi-hua-hua, They are different breeds of rodents. The rat is a much smarter animal, and both of them in many places are kept as pets. In India, there are temples dedicated to rats, considered to be re-incarnations of people.

The rat has had a bad stigma of a dirty animal, but in reality they are not. They do carry diseases, but so do cats and birds. In the city they live in garbage and thus we think of them as dirty, but in the country side they feed on grain and behave a lot more like squirels, which humans find cute, but carry rabies.

I also kept snakes, and felt bad pre-killing the rats...

Rats are bigger and usually a grey colour. Mice are smaller and come in a variety of colours.

Similarities: They are both invasive species that need mouse traps

As pets? See http://www.rmca.org/Resources/abestpet.txt

Since you've posted this question in the "Reptiles" section, you may thinking of feeding rats or mice to a reptile. Here's a safer and more humane alternative:

Rats are bigger, smarter, and make better pets than mice.

Mice are smaller, smellier, and run away if you don't keep their cage locked tight.

..At least as pets, that's the difference between rats and mice.
