Anything with teeth can bite. The question should be "how much will it hurt?". The answer is not much, if it even tries, and chances are it won't. In their panic they are more likely to poop all over you... quite frankly I would rather be bitten.

Some people call the Grey Rat snake a 'white oak snake'- is this what you mean? I don't know of any other snake called an 'oak snake'.

Rat snakes are helpful animals that help control rodent and pest populations. If it was in your house, it was either brought in by accident, was looking for food (do you have rodents in there?) or was looking for shelter. If it was the first or last options, it wants to leave ASAP.

Rat snakes can and will bite if threatened, but are usually pretty calm animals. If bitten, the bite is usually painless and consists of a series of tiny punctures in a U shape. They bite mostly to shock you into letting them go because it really hurts them to bite big things like us!

Any snake can bite humans if it feels its life is in danger.
