a snake that wont bite???? all snakes are capable of biting if you act inappropriately or dont know the basics of handling them. but some snakes that are known to have good temperaments would be the Columbian Boa AKA common boa and they can reach lengths of around 8 ft or so, another option would be a Ball Python another good tempered snake that could reach 6 ft but avg about 4.5 or 5. the care and requirements are a little different for both. so when and if you choose the snake you want you can then ask what kind of requirements are needed for your particular snake, or look it up at kingsnake.com on their "caresheets" pages. this is just my opinion but the columbian was my first snake and i was hooked now i own 6 snakes; 2 Columbian (hope to breed them this year) pastel ball and a normal ball which i am planning on breeding in a couple years, a brazilian rainbow boa and a jungle carpet python.
good luck and happy herping

Where is a good website or store to buy a snake? A GENERIC snake. You need to decide what you want and how to care for it BEFORE you purchase. Some species are not as easily kept as others. KNOWLEDGE is the best starter base to work with. A good book from a book store if you wish to buy one or the local library is another source of knowledge. Start with reading about the many varieties before you decide to purchase any. There are many very reputable dealers on kingsnake.com and there are many good pet shops as well.

This is one of the best places to buy snakes or any reptiles from for that matter. It is always better to buy from a breeder than a store because you will get a better quality animal and mostlikely it will be parasite free.
