This is almost word for word what she told me when I asked her.
"It depends on the size of the monitor when it is full-grown. There needs to be enough dirt for it to dig and hide; and it needs to be very hot (like 120)." She says a long 60 gallon should be fine, but that depends on the size of your monitor now and as she grows. Obviously you're doing something right if she's lived in it for three years and there have been no problems. If she has suddenly increased in size or has trouble moving around, you should get a bigger tank. Talk to your pet store employees who work in the Reptile section, not just ones who get called over there....they should be able to help you should you need to buy a larger one.

Savanna Monitor's are among the largest reptiles reaching lengths up to 4-5ft. Most websites and books will recommend actually keeping these lizards in a spare room and letting them free roam for a few hours of the day to get their exercise. As far as tank requirements go, you will probably have to invest in getting a tank custom made or, if you feel confident enough to do so, custom make one yourself! You will probably need something at least 7-9 feet long and 3ft wide. A lizard that size will need an enclosure that large just to turn around and be confortable, but let her come out and do a little bit of free roaming under your supervision for exercise. Good luck with your monitor!

How long is it now? a 60 gallon sounds good, but if it has gotten past 3 feet then you definatly need a larger tank

I don't know exactly but my brother had one that he kept in a 60 gallon long aquarium and it was happy- didn't have any problems feeding or anything. GL they make a huge mess when they're eating
