I have an opal russian dwarf hamster. I have had her for aprox. a month and 9 days. she is a female...or so the people at Petsmart said so....and ive been thinking of getting another dwarf. Now i dont know if i should get another female...which would be perfect companions...and then after a while a male to mate them. OR get a male now and mate just those two hamsters. What would be the best desition from people who have bred dwarf hamsters or know about them. THanx!

My hamster has a small bump underneath his eye in the cheek area. There is no sign of pus or blood, and he is eating normally and has tons of energy. When I called the vet, she said that if it is a stuck seed, I might be able to pop it out. How would I do that without hurting the animal? Also, what are the signs of an abscess?

I keep checking up on my guinea pig Maija and she is coming out of her igloo to eat, get a drink of water and come near the opening of the cage . When she jumped from my arms it wasnt far but im thinking it scared and hurt her for the first couple minutes. my carpeted floor might have helped her from hurting herself more. she is limping though. im still going to call around for a vet to get it checked out though.

I'm really worried about him ( his name is "Huntie") he's a shorthaired hamster that was given to my friend because her old one died, and I'd hate her to face Huntie's death also.

PLEASE HELP!!

I am 13 and I really want to be a vet when I'm older, so I was thinking that maybe I can go do some volunteer work at a animal shelter... but because of laybor laws most places don't allow it! So I need somewhere I can work with animals (preferably dogs) with my age... know any places?

I live in Orange County, and recently, some of the hilly areas around my house have been developed--leaving the many coyotes that lived there with no where to go. Now the coyotes are moving into the neighborhoods and killing pets. They're getting bolder too, and starting to come out during the day, near elementary schools. Its kind of scary.
Last night one of them killed our pet rabbit, and tried to get to our chickens too. Now, we have to keep our cats in the house. It's hard to keep them indoors all the time though.
I feel bad for the poor coyotes who have no where to go, but they can't stay here.
I was just wondering how other people have dealt with this problem. Can anyone help?

I quit volunteering at the humane society yesterday. When I put an application in, they said they were glad they finally had a 'good volunteer' (they never said exactly what that meant) and said there would be no problem with me volunteering on weekends and on my days off (I am 16 and a junior in high school). Yesterday was my second time volunteering. When I asked when to come back next, they said they thought that weekend was full but they would call me back when they looked at the schedule. It took them four hours to call me back, even thought it probably would have only taken a couple minutes to do. Then, they said that they don't have a volunteer application on file for me and that I would have to fill another one out (which I was willing to do). When I asked them when to come back, they said all of their weekends were full. Why would they say there would be no problem even though there weren't any openings? How common is this to happen, this is my first time volunteering?

He thinks that I need to sedate and give my horse pain meds when he shoes him (my farrier is fairly old...not to be rude) He says my horse has pain in his back legs when he lifts the horse's foot because the horse is constantly puting a little presure on him. Is this reason to give a shot to him or not? It costs only an extra $10 but I can't ride my horse, safely, the rest of the day without worry that he will fall with me. Is this reason enough to give him a shot? Is it worth it? If you need more information say so and I'll do the best I can.

I have to pick a pet, your favorite?

2007-03-09 13:14:51 · 18 answers · asked by Becca 2

hi everyone

My pet rat perky has come over really ill in the last few days and has suddenly become very docile (she was a bit nippy always before) also she can not pick up her food to eat it and she is being hand fed at the moment. i have taken her to the vets and they have precribed baytrail for her which she is taking at present however because i know quite alot about the general diseases rats tend to suffer with, i seem to not be able to come across any thing defiente when it comes to the symtoms of her not being able to hold her food. she did have a mate about six months ago who also had similar systems and got so bad she had to be euthenised. So basically i was just wondering if any one else had seen these systems in an elderly sick rat before and if so is there any thing else we can do as well as the precrisbed medicine.

Thank you all in advance

Brightest Blessings
lisa
