I have two female pet rats, sisters. One called Tickles, has a very large tumour under her arm that is inoperable but she seems to have a good appetite and is alert and happy...however, her sister Nelly is very sick and has a lump and quite bad arthritis. We have made an appointment next week to put Nelly to sleep but I know that when it's time to put her down that Tickles won't cope at all when she leaves, as she got very depressed when we seperated them after Nelly had an operation for another tumour. Tickles wouldn't eat and would sit in the cage with her eyes closed all day. Should I leave Tickles to keep on living and risk her getting severly depressed or take them both to the vet and put them both to sleep at the same time?

My cat sucks on my t-shirts which always weirds me out. My dog is pretty smart and learned how to turn doorknobs all on her own.

What unique things can your pets do?

Ok, as terrible as this sounds, please dont think I could ever imagine doing this on purpose. I feel terrible. If you have a week stomach please do not read. Well I own a cleaning company first of all. I clean for my biggest client every Wed. Thats the only time I go in and work with my staff. She is the sweetest nicest person and she pays 1/2 my salary! Well last week I was folding up her sofa bed and thaught nothing of it. This morning I fould out that her kitten that had been missing was found dead in the sofa couch and had been squashed to death! I cant call her and appologize b/c she is deaf. I will see her tomorrow and I want to just run away. I cant beleive that happened. It was totally my fault and I feel like crap! What should I say! Maybe she doesnt want to talk about it, but I want her to know that I am sincerely sorry and I feel terrible! Please advise. I know Im an idiot! PLease advise!

My neighbor has about 15-20 stray cats outside her house that she feeds, and they like roaming into my yard. They hang out on my car and use my garden as a litterbox. Now my yard smells like cat! Any suggestions as to how to keep them out of my yard (I don't want to put out mothballs because I have dogs and I am afraid the dogs may try to eat them and get sick)?

I have already tried:
A "liquid fence" product that worked for two days until it rained and it also smelled awful!

Is it best to neuter a female rabbit? How about a male rabbit? In a situation where they are kept separately because they are un-neutered, which is the best sex to neuter in order for them to be able to live together? Or is it not a good idea to put adult opposite sex rabbits together? (Even if they do 'know' each other, because they live in close quarters?).

Just a little background info. first...I currently have a degree in Marketing, and although I'm very happy having it, I'm really looking for a job that I can feel some self worth with and one that I can really feel like I am making a difference.

Here is my dilemma:

I don't know if I'd like to pursue an administrative role in veterinary services, and also get certified as a vet assistant so that I can perhaps cross train and take on both roles, OR go for the vet technician program.

Both sound ideal to me, so I really need some REAL input from those in these types of positons, on advantages/disadvantages of both, whatever they may be. Also, which is more rewarding, and what's likely to pay more. Possibly the difficulties each present. How difficult are the courses that are needed for these positions?

Also, do you think having a business degree and/or experience will help with either of these positions?

Thanks a bunch for any advice you can give! :)

I recently ordered Innova dog and cat food for my pets. When they were delivered on the back of the food it says "Animal feeding tests using AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) procedures substantiate that Innova Food provides complete and balanced nutrition..."
I know Iams tests on animals also, in a "humane" way. But I do not like this at all. What do they do when they test on animals for food? I imagine animals kept in small cages all day long.

I'm turning 13, and my mom promised me that she would let me get a pet. But it has to be a small one, like a hamster or gerbil. I don't really know which one to pick. I want a FRIENDLY pet that are easy to befriend.
Here are my choices:

Hamster (I've never had one before but they're bigger than mice and gerbils so I'm not too afraid to hurt them while I hold them.)

Gerbil (I've had one before, but I don't really think I should get one again because it bit me a lot, and some how got out of its cage and we couldn't find it anywhere :] )

Rabbit (I haven't really talked to my mom about this though. She says that they stink and I don't know if she would let me get one even if it was my bday)

Ferret (I've heard that ferrets are expensive and have an odor problem)

So if you think theres something else I should get please suggest it also.
Thanks :]

My rabbit got bit by another rabbit (it's dad, actually) and is really hurt. It got bit near the legs and lost all its hair in that area. He can't use his hind legs at the moment because there is a giant red ball in the place he got bit at. We have no idea what to do or what it is. But, he's been like that a few weeks and is getting better. Still, any advice or suggestions?

Why is it that I know hear that alot of people have been brainwashed into thinking that desexing animals is ok and that we can treat them whatever we want. Declawring, spaying, neutering whatever you call it, you can come up with any name you butchers out there who do it. Im a retired Vet in her late 40's and il tell you that in my lifetime I have always been against this in-humane act. People have ask me to desex their pet and I just refuse full-stop. Most people out there think that it is irresponsible, I honestly think that they have their heads turned on backwards. Im also shocked and disappointed at the green groups and the RSPCA for allowing this barbaric ritual to happen. People out there who follow upon this act do not want to spend time with their pet, instead they see their pets nature as a nuisance therefore trying to mutilate to solve the problem.
