Hey there,

It sounds if your little guy isn't doing so well. Most of all, I think I would reccomend a trip to the vet, so asking your parents again might be a good idea. Money is scarce sometimes and I understand that, but you should try if you can. If you want to go to your parents with a little more information on costs, you can look up your local vets and find out how much a checkup would be. I know it can get expensive, but hopefully it won't be too bad and your parents will consder it.

If that doesn't work out, then I still reccomend talking to a vets office over the phone and asking if they have any suggestions. Buying vitamin drops from your local petstore to add to his water bottle isn't a bad idea (the store attendants can help you find one that's right for a hamster and this will probably be under ten dollars), as well as making sure you keep enough very goood things for him to eat in the cage.

A possibility that's occurred to me just now is that he may have broken his front teeth (especialy if you have something metal in there like a hamster wheel that he's been chewing on). This happened to one of my guinea pigs once from teething on the bars of his cage and rodents can actually starve to death if this happens and no one realizes because they can't bite their food until their teeth grow back in a couple of weeks. If he hasn't had enough to eat lately and is getting skinny all over, that might explain the shrinking. Anyway, I'm not saying for sure that he broke his teeth, but it seemed like that might be a possability. What I did for my guniea pig when that happened is chew or cut carrots into very small pieces that he could pretty-much just swallow and after about two weeks he could manage just fine by himself again.

Good luck, and I hope he turns out okay!

you sound like you have have a very sick hamster and shame on your parents for not wanting to help out with the vet bill. Call the local animal shelter. They might know someone who can give you a good rate on vet visit. Do chores and help out in the community to raise extra money. Good luck.
