Hamsters cost around $6.00. It's the start up stuff that cost so much. You can plan on spending $60.00 to get started, cage, bedding, food, water bottle, chew sticks ect...
Once you've got all that you'll just need to keep buying food, treats and bedding.

Hamsters themselves are very inexpensive - usually under $10 - but everything you need for a hamster can cost $40-$70 (depending on the size and quality of what you get), plus more for food and cedar chips every few months.

They can cost from 8-25 depending on if you get a dwarf or a full sized. Dwarf hamsters are on the cheeper end.
