I have an opal russian dwarf hamster. I have had her for aprox. a month and 9 days. she is a female...or so the people at Petsmart said so....and ive been thinking of getting another dwarf. Now i dont know if i should get another female...which would be perfect companions...and then after a while a male to mate them. OR get a male now and mate just those two hamsters. What would be the best desition from people who have bred dwarf hamsters or know about them. THanx!

Forget the male unless you want litter after litter and have a guarentee to get homes for them or have a pet store 100% willing to take them (good luck on both). Pick out a female that is as close as possible to your hamsters age. One too much older or too young and one may kill the other. One 5-6 weeks is the perfect age for yours, but not more then 8 weeks old. You're pushing it then. I used to breed Syrians when my older kids were little and had a contract with a pet store for the babies. When I moved, I sold all but one female, my oldest and non-breeder. We started breediing Russian dwarfs back a few years ago on a verbal commitment with a different pet store and they backed out, citing they weren't selling dwarfs any more. I had 5 litters by then and decided to keep all of them since I still had all my cages from years eariler. We have since quit breeding and began to help others that can't keep their hamsters or other small animals by taking them in and depending on the age, getting them new homes. Those hamsters under 8 months we keep, under 8 months adopt out.

they are very comparable. in case you have become it from a puppy save, you're maximum in all probability getting a Campbell's Russian the two way. they are honestly flawed for an further. Congrats! i'm getting a hamster in some months! :) i might decide on iciness White. in case you get a purebred, it is going to maximum in all probability turn White interior the iciness! :) (subsequently the call)

NO 2 females will tear eachother apart, 2 males get along better, get a male and female and breed em'

whatever you get you will have to keep them in seperate cages as they will kill,if you want to breed just put them together for a short while watching them carefully ,two females will not tolerate each other,so dont try
