My hamster has a small bump underneath his eye in the cheek area. There is no sign of pus or blood, and he is eating normally and has tons of energy. When I called the vet, she said that if it is a stuck seed, I might be able to pop it out. How would I do that without hurting the animal? Also, what are the signs of an abscess?

You could try gently pushing the seed down toward the mouth opening if that doesn't work just keep an eye on him and see if it comes out. If there are other hamsters in the cage he is probably hiding it.
If the bump it painful ( you can tell if the hamsters squirm and squeak alot when you touch it) It would probably smell bad and you might see some puss if it is an open abscess. If it doesn't go away with in a couple days you should take him to the vet. :) Good Luck!

you just take your thumb and pointer fingers and slowly move your fingers towards the mouth until the seed pops out. abscess and lumps and they are usually on an animals stomach so your hamster does not have an abscess.

i could take her to the vet as we talk, I even have worked with rats and guinea pigs and positively one of them had very comparable indicators and it ended up being an infection led to by ability of malocclusion (overgrown teeth) and if her face is that swollen there's a huge threat that this is an quite severe an infection i'm hoping this facilitates you and your hamster gets greater desirable quickly

I would take your hamster to the vet so they can take the seed out or check if it might be another problem.

take it to a vet if your planning on popping it. Good luck on getting your finger in its mouth without getting bitten.
