I quit volunteering at the humane society yesterday. When I put an application in, they said they were glad they finally had a 'good volunteer' (they never said exactly what that meant) and said there would be no problem with me volunteering on weekends and on my days off (I am 16 and a junior in high school). Yesterday was my second time volunteering. When I asked when to come back next, they said they thought that weekend was full but they would call me back when they looked at the schedule. It took them four hours to call me back, even thought it probably would have only taken a couple minutes to do. Then, they said that they don't have a volunteer application on file for me and that I would have to fill another one out (which I was willing to do). When I asked them when to come back, they said all of their weekends were full. Why would they say there would be no problem even though there weren't any openings? How common is this to happen, this is my first time volunteering?

I am really kind of depressed about this because I was having a good time there. I don't know if I should try volunteering again. I don't know what to do!!!!!

I am really weary about trying again because I put a lot of effort into it, and I enjoyed it. I don't want to be disappointed again!

I would ask to speak with the person in charge of volunteers, and ask them to be honest with you-- was there something that you didn't do well, or correctly? Because if there was, it can only benefit everyone to tell you.

Hopefully, as someone already said, it was just a misunderstanding. I can't IMAGINE someone not wanting a volunteer on weekends. Good luck, and thank you for wanting to volunteer! If it doesn't work out, try a local rescue group. I work with greyhounds, and we are always looking for people to hang out with us at "meet and greets" and hold/walk dogs.

Go in and talk to them in person. Perhaps when they talked to you on the phone, they thought you were someone else,
and didn't realize that it was you, the person that they liked
working with. Maybe there is another person with the same first name and it's just a mix up. Don't give up, it might just be some sort of accident.
Maybe you talked to a person that wasn't there when you were there working earlier and they aren't sure exactly who you are?

Sad story. I wish it would have gone better.
