I'm really worried about him ( his name is "Huntie") he's a shorthaired hamster that was given to my friend because her old one died, and I'd hate her to face Huntie's death also.

PLEASE HELP!!

She HAS heard of a vet and she got him at Petsmart and Petsmart is a large pet shop, unlike the more smaller ones....I only asked for suggestions, incase someone knows whats going on.

Not a suggestion, this is fact.

These "scars" are normal and they are scent glands on the legs of hamsters. They are larger on the male then the female, that's why they will be more noticeable.

The male will rub on objects, marking his territory with a pheromone-scented oil.

From the website:
http://www.medaille.edu/vmacer/120_lec_10ahamsters&gerbils_graphics.htm
"Hamsters have sebaceous glands on their hips (flanks) that produce pheromones used for sexual activity and territory marking. These glands are darker colored than the surrounding fur and more prominent in male hamsters".

Edit:
If you doubt my answer, even after supplying you with this information, then it would be best for a vet to diagnose the "problem", and put your mind at ease :)

All my best to Huntie :)

I have to agree with Spazats, they are most likely correct. I would tell you to see a vet when ever in doubt on any animals health no matter what the size, just make sure the vet has small animal expericnce.

Friendship, no that is not undesirable....my contacts in basic terms this week helped me turn my head faraway from the darkness and in the direction of the easy....that is not delusional in any respect, yet a fact.
