1. Only PLACENTAL mammals have umbilicals. Marsupials (kangaroos, possums, etc.) do not.

2. The umbilical scar (belly button) shows up on all placental mammals, but is usually hard to find, and was usually smaller in proportion to the animal than it is on humans.

3. Umbilical scars are pretty easy to see on young animals- try looking on a pup or kitten next time.

4. All mammals have mammary glands and some form of nipple- but those are hard to find as well- even though they are usually bigger and easier to find!

All mammals have them... but most don't have innies or outies like humans. In most other animals you simply see a small scar on their belly. Especially with dogs and cats the only time you generally see them are when you're prepping for a spay and shave their belly.

A bellybutton is simply a scar left where the umbilical cord was attached. Other mammals have a scar on the abdomens from them, too, although they might not look like a bellybutton.

As long as they are attached by an umbilical cord, they have a belly button. They just aren't like ours, in dogs and cats, it's just normally a tiny wee spot on their belly.

I'm not sure why but I just thought this was a good question so I had to star it. I never really thought about it until now. haha

I know dogs and cats have them, they're just harder to see because of the fur.
