My aquarium is in the second stage of the "New Tank Cycle" and the nitrite levels were at 3ppm. The comparison chart I have says that 3ppm is stressful to the fish so I did a 20% water change. But I found a chart on the web that says to do a 50% water change. How high do nitrite levels have to be to really harm fish? Here is that link http://freshaquarium.about.com/library/begin/ncolornitritechart.htm

After putting my damselfish they died in just less then an hour. The Yellow damselfish died after maybe 20 minutes and suddenly it changed into a greenish color. My blue damselfish started changing color and was still alive so I decided to take him out and the dead damselfish too.The blue damselfish is still alive in the bag with the dead yellow damselfish which I plan on returning them from the store I bought them.

My aquarium is 20 Gallons the water tempreture is just around 75-78 F I have an air pump and a water filter.

They are currently 7 fish living there 2 Gold Guaramis which seem pretty fine. Two Angel Fish which seem pretty fine and 2 cat fish which are always hyper until night time they get tired and go to sleep.

I feed my fish regularly in the morning I feed little flake food and around night, before I go to bed I feed them frozen worms.

Okay, I got my God-daughter a fish tank for Christmas, it has all the basic stuff I need, but someone told her mother that you needed to put water in it and wait 24 hours before adding fish. Is this true?? Also it's a 10 gal. tank... how many goldfish should I get?? And anymore suggestions would be appreciated!!! Thanks!!

i have a heater in a ten gallon tank and its not heating up very well. the water is still cold. i dont have a water pump or anything because its for a betta, its just a heater in there. would the heater work and how long would it take. i have a tetra one. u cant set the temperature, its suppose to "automatically warms water to the proper temperature for your fish(76 f to 80f) i totally regret not getting a thermometer, right now i just left the fish in the cup and put a lamp over it. right now its been in the tank for over an hour and the water still feels the same. is the heater broken or something?

So lets see if yahoo answers actually works in the way its "meant to be used". according to them at least.

*Anyone who owns a salt water fish tank could help me out with this.

I've filled up my tank with water from my hose. I know theres chlorine in that water. Will the chlorine go away on its own through the live rock and filter? Or should I add something before I put in a fish?

Thanks for your help.

I have a breeding pair of convict cichlids and the babies from their latest batch have all grown to be about a centimeter or two... about four however are a pinkish color and they haven't changed into the dark color of the siblings. Are they sick? What should I do?

I have four goldfish(two babie ryukins and two young comets)and spring is just a couple months away. What do goldfish eggs look like. I'm not actually sure. I saw some pictures of marine fish eggs but I'm not sure of these eggs look like golfish eggs. I'd really appreciate pictures and website links. Thanks for looking!

I was doing a weekly partial water change and clean to my 20 gallon tank. I had removed a couple of the plants in the tank and on the underside of one of the silk plants there was what looked like a drip of water. It was clear but was just a little firm bubble. I have 2 mollies, 5 danios, 5 red eyed tettras, and 4 - 5 snails. My suspition is it was snail eggs, but there was no coloration to it. I am not sure what type of snail I have either, I got them from the pet store, they were just in one of the tanks with live plants, the lady said they didn't sell snails so gave them to me for free. They are a brownish color, roundish shell with just a little point at the end. If anyone can tell me what this bubble was I saw and give me an idea what type of snails I may have It would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
I have a 5 gallon mini bow tank with whisper/charcoal filter also an air stone. Lots of circulation. I had my water checked at Petsmart, as I have gone back to only RO water due to too many deaths of my other fish from 1/2 RO and 1/2 treated tap water where I live. Told them the size of my tank and I got 4 Male small guppy's. They are really fun to watch,,am enjoying the action. My ?'s are this......
How often do I feed them, as I noticed the flakes are HUGE. So I crumble them and put a bit in twice a day till they eat them all,,is that ok?
Am keeping an eye on the ammonia levels etc,,,,
How do I clean their tank and when should I? I usually do a 25-30% water change weekly on all my tanks,,have two bettas in seperate tanks. And did this with my gold fish too.
As for cleaning the bottom I have one of those MrCleaner things battery operated,,,
Just want to make it less stressful for the fish and less stressful for me too. How do I clean the "cleaner" b4 using it on the others?

1) How many years have you been raising or breeding fish.

2) What are some of the golden rules when cleaning out a tank? I know the first rule is no SOAP, but what else.

3) When setting up a tank for the first time? How long should you run the tank, before introducing fish? Should all tanks be run for the same amount time? Ex: 10 to 55 gal be run for 1-7
days
4) How often should one feed fry? How often should adults be fed? What type of food does one feed to livebreeders?
What type of food does egg layers consume?

5) What temperture range should one have for the livebreeders? Egg layers?

6) Should a 55 gallon tank be completely torn down for a yearly cleaning after the fish have been transfer to another tank?

Note: I have guppies now for two years and I have struggle with some of the same problems everyone else has had.

Thanks to everyone who help answer these questions and thank you for helping those who are just starting out in the World of Fish

I'm trying to figure out what I want to stock my tank with, so I came down to gouramis, and whatelse that can go with them... and what other fish can go with the gouramis? Thanks! Oh, and I was going to get a bristlenose pleco for cleaning the tank.

I have 1 small new shubunkin, 2 small new common goldfish and 1 adult comet goldfish, and I really love them, but it's just that they are always sitting at the bottom of the tank, they barely go up to the surface, when I feed them, the small fish slowly creep up to the surface to eat and them quickly go back down to the bottom as if the top of the tank is dangerous.

And also my adult comet goldfish doesn't eat no more, I asked my mum why the adult comet doesn't eat anymore and she said it's probably because of the loss of it's best friend (we had two comet goldfish for two years and unfortunately one of them died).

What I'm trying to say is, please give me answers about why my small new fish hate going up to the surface and why my comet goldfish doesn't eat as much as it does before?

The one I have now creates so much current that it literally spits water all over the lid of the tank, and then it it drips over the edge.

Its a small sized elite - in a three gallon aquarium.

Any ideas?
