Hi,
I have a 5 gallon mini bow tank with whisper/charcoal filter also an air stone. Lots of circulation. I had my water checked at Petsmart, as I have gone back to only RO water due to too many deaths of my other fish from 1/2 RO and 1/2 treated tap water where I live. Told them the size of my tank and I got 4 Male small guppy's. They are really fun to watch,,am enjoying the action. My ?'s are this......
How often do I feed them, as I noticed the flakes are HUGE. So I crumble them and put a bit in twice a day till they eat them all,,is that ok?
Am keeping an eye on the ammonia levels etc,,,,
How do I clean their tank and when should I? I usually do a 25-30% water change weekly on all my tanks,,have two bettas in seperate tanks. And did this with my gold fish too.
As for cleaning the bottom I have one of those MrCleaner things battery operated,,,
Just want to make it less stressful for the fish and less stressful for me too. How do I clean the "cleaner" b4 using it on the others?

Hi thank you for the answers. I just used the MrCleaner on my one gallon betta tank,,, it can be found at:
Drsfostersmith.com just do a search for mrcleaner. I just rinsed it out along with the other utensils in some hot salt water,,hope that will work. I did buy some xtra bags for the cleaner,,,but have not used them yet. Not too good syphoning, as my aquariums are on desk, and don't like to suck on the hose lol...so hopefully this will all work. Thanks for the info on feeding too. As I did notice that one of them sucked up a pretty big piece,,and was worried about it. But he is still swimming. First time guppy owner, and I like them =) Have a two week warranty on them from petsmart. Also I have heard they need aquarium salt and then have heard they don't. Petsmart said theirs were not in salt, so I have not added any to mine. Seems when I put aquarium salt in my freshwater tanks to help with fish they die =(
All info welcome =)

I always hated the battery operated siphons, because they're not as effective as a regular one
they sell really small siphons, i saw one the other day already witht he pump attached for $14.99 at petsmart, where you don't need to suck on it either

as for the feeding, once or twice a day is fine, but no more then they will eat in under 3-5 min, the rest needs to be netted out

Keep doing your weekly maintenance, you're doing good with that, it's very important to give them fresh water on a regular basis, even if your parameters are ok

As for the salt, i like to put some into my tanks, but only 1 tablspoon on 5 gallons after you do your waterchanges
I haven't experienced any diseases in my tanks since i'm using salt

Hope that helps
good luck

I would only do a 10% water change weekly. Guppies won't make a huge waste load and changing too much water can upset the bacteria balance of the tank.

Crumbling up the flakes is good and only feed a pinch. Guppies always think they are hungry but feeding them morning and night is enough.

Sorry I don't know anything about the cleaner you have but it sounds interesting.

It sounds like your really into action in keeping fish. You should feed your fish once or twice a day. Yes, definetely crumble them to smaller pieces

You should get a siphon hose, they should be availabe from petsmart. You should clean it once a week. Or once every two weeks would be fine. If you want to use the cleaners for others I would just wash it and let it dry so the bacteria can't for from one place to the other.
