Ok so I've taken out 4 goldfish, 1 regular catfish and 2 snails and unfortunately walmart won't take them back unless they're dead :( so I have them in a separate tank until I find a new owner. I'll look around for a good home and hopefully they'll be ok. So now all I have are 3 lyrefish and 2 upside down catfish in a 10 gallon tank and everyone has survived for three days. I added a friend's old mature filter to the tank so speed up the nitrogen cycle. Now i have another problem...dun-dun dunnn!

TAILROT

I've read that lyrefish will do ok in brakish or somewhat salty water. What about catfish? Should I put 2 tblsp. of salt?

On most fish profile sites it states that Rosy Barbs grow to 6 inches in the wild, but usually do not exceed 2-4 inches in captivity. I've had 6 for a while (at least 6 months) and they seem to have stopped at 1 3/4 inches. I bought them at about 1 1/2 inches. The tank is 30 gallons and not overstocked so they are not stunted.

My question is, does anyone else have good experience with rosy barbs and their final captivity length? I'm trying to judge how many inches/gallon I have left and it is proving difficult.

I went to my local Home Depot and found myself some Play Sand, but I ended up not liking the color or the amount of cleaning it needed. I have heard that Silica Sand is much lighter and nicer to deal with for freshwater aquariums, and it won't affect the water chemistry much if at all. There is just one problem, I can't find it anywhere! Does it go under any other names?

This seems to be the most frequently asked question and I have been able to find a lot of information but not quite enough. I have a female Platy who is mostly orange with black fins. I'm not sure whether or not she's preggo. Her tummy is slightly swollen and looks like it has turned slightly silver translucent...but not quite (more silver than anything). Is there anyone that can show me a picture of a preggo platty? She doesn't seem to have a gavid spot and i would love to have fry. But i just can't tell for sure....please help.

Ok,

It's not really an ask question.

But I kind of get annoyed when everyone calls the fighting fish a Chinese or Cambodian.

It has a reason why it's called a "Siamese Fighting Fish" because it comes from Siam a.k.a Thailand.

Okies ^__^ Needed to get that out my head.

I was wondering if one was better for plants?

The hood that I was thinking about buying has a "screw fixture" - the end you plug the lightbulb into is shaped like a the end of a regular lamp lightbulb - and it will take a 15 watt incandescent bulb, or a 10 watt flourscent bulb...the package says that the 10 watt flourscent is equivelent to a 50 watt incandscent.

Can anyone clarify this?
Thanks a bunch

Is it safe if I put a water heater into a bucket were my fishes are?

The tank sprung a leak so we moved everyone into a plastic bucket.

Would it be a problem if I put the aquarium heater into the bucket?

I am doing this now....but wondering if I should pull it out before a fire starts or something.

A prompt reply would be great!!

Thanks

I really don't know what to do. My aquarium is as green as it can ever get. I've treated it many times but this time it doesn't work?! I think the algae adapted to the treatments lol. I've tried about 4 different brands of algae control, none of them made any changes at all. I've tried scrubbing and water changes. I've tried blocking alot of sunlight out. I've tried all I can in the past 5 months, its been solid green for 5 monthes straight! My ph is good, my amonia is good, my temp is good. My fish are perfectly fine, just the tank looks horrible. Can anyone help me please. Thanks alot.
