My aquarium is 20 Gallons the water tempreture is just around 75-78 F I have an air pump and a water filter.

They are currently 7 fish living there 2 Gold Guaramis which seem pretty fine. Two Angel Fish which seem pretty fine and 2 cat fish which are always hyper until night time they get tired and go to sleep.

Did anyone mention to you that damsels are saltwater fish? Without marine salt added to the water, they wouldn't be able to live - they come from the ocean.

Nor would your gouramis or angels be able to live in the conditions that damsels need, because they are freshwater fish.

NOTE: Some species of catfish (such as corydoras and otocinclus) are social, so they SHOULD be kept in groups - usually of 3+, though. Without knowing the species, there's no way to know if the behavior is territorial aggression (but it would be good for you to find out so you keep the correct number to prevent stress to your fish).

Get a e book on training approximately installation an aquarium and study it. A terrible scent is obviously a pink flag which you're able to re set up our tank. I continuously boiled any element, like a rock or gravel, that went into the aquarium first for a minimum of five min, rinse and drain and use. Plastic stuff that cannot be boiled could be positioned right into a clorox bleach answer then rinsed very ok and used. you're able to have a water finding out kit and the e book tells you information on the thank you to apply it. diverse fish want categories of water. Aquarium could take a seat for an afternoon of 24 hours before including any fish to stabilize temp and the remainder of it. We use the aquarium salt offered in puppy shops the way it extremely is directed on the field. WE use a siphon and alter a million/3 of the water off the backside the different day and discard, or extra, reckoning on what share fish in line with gallon we've interior the tank. as quickly as you get the carry of it, an aquarium is a stunning and exciting element to have and hassle-free to maintain.

As the others pointed out, Damselfish are Saltwater fish, and will NOT live in Freshwater. I would take the dead fish back and demand a refund from the store for not pointing this out to you.

As for the current stocking, 2 angel fish are too many for 20 gallon tank they grow too large, minimum 30 gallons for one, and as another poster said, depending the species, 2 catfish could be too many also.

You didn't say if you properly acclimated the fish before you put it into your aquarium. You are supposed to set the whole bag into the aquarium and let the temperature in the bag become the same as the aquarium. Then you are supposed to add a 1/4 cup of the aquarium water to the water in the bag every 10minutes until the bag is full. Then you pour out half of the water into the sink and continue to keep adding 1/4 cup until full again. You want to do that 3 times and then add the fish. Yes it is a lengthy process, but it will reduce fish loss and stress.

I will also mention one thing, two catfish are too many for a 20 gallon tank, they are too territorial and will eventually start fighting as they get older, you will either end up with one dead cat or two injured ones, and a few of the others may be hurt as well during the aggressive fighting, I would find one of the cats a new home.

I hate to tell you but the reason your damselfish died is because you put them in your freshwater tank. Damselfish are saltwater fish. I'm surprised no one at the pet store told you that.

The species you listed having in your aquarium already are fresh water fish. Damsels are marine (salt water) fish. They cannot live in the same environment as your other fish.

It depends on where you bought them frm, and the difference in the tempuratures of the two waters. They could have had ick, Or some other fish disease. It could have been the traumatic ride. Or maybe the difference in the chemicals from the water they came in to your water. I would take them back and ask them to a water level test and as well you do one too, to get to the bottom of the truth.
