I have had my Betta for 6 months. He has developed fin rot. I started Melafix treatments right away. He is in an average size fish bowl. When I first got him I checked the Internet and it seemed that weekly 2/3 water changes would be enough. As I have researched more I found some say that if the fish is living in a bowl I should do 100% water changes. However, for the first 5 1/2 months he was fine. It confuses me as to why he didn't get the fin rot for 5 1/2 months when he had been living with the same weekly 2/3 water changes for that long. Since he came down with fin rot I have been doing 100% water changes every other day. I thought I would change his water every day. But this turned out to be unrealistic. What I really want to understand is what is to keep him from getting the fin rot back after the 7 day treatment and if he does how long can I put the Melafix in his bowl without it becoming toxic? I do put Stress Coat in his water and let it set for 24 hours before using it.

I got a beta fish (named Darth Beta) about a week ago. He wasn't the prettiest or biggest of all betas but I liked him anyways. Initially I had him in a 1/2 gal bowl but after reading up on opinions of fish breeders/lovers I upgraded to a 2 gal aquarium with a filter. I've only had him a week but noticed his fins are much longer and he seems overall more vibrant and attractive. Is this in my head? Or can betas actually really significantly change in such a small period of time?

I believe that it is 1/2 a cup per gallon but im not sure. My salt package goes by weight of salt not volume. i usually use a scale but it broke. Please don't make up answers if you aren't sure. This is a life or death (of my fish/corals) situation

Live in japan. Japanese man gave me them . My kids want to keep them but there are like 50 or more of the little boogers. I got a small set up but not sure how many I can keep in the tank 12liters. Everything is in different measurements here. BUt how do I choose which ones to keep? And what do I do with the rest. I dont speak Japanese and there is not a local pet shop that I know of where I can just give them away. I looked online and could have some pretty valuable fish, and have no clue where they came from. Any ideas will be good. I am not a fish person.

I moved her into a breeding box about a week ago. She started to gave birth about 8 hours ago I am thinking, the first fry was still born. She started to have another about 3 hours later, but it took her another 5 hours to give birth to that fish which was also still born. So at this point in 8 hours, there have been 2 fry born and both were still born. What is going wrong here? Does it normally take a livebearer 5 + hours to birth a single fish? Why are they dead? Is there anything I can do? I hope this made sense any thanks in advance for advice, or info you can give.

I have fantail goldfish i got at walmart over a year ago and he is fine. i recently (2 weeks ago) purchased a telescope eye goldfish and put him with my other fish. i fed them last nite and when i came back a couple hours later, the telescope eye was dead...ive read that telescope eye goldfish have a hard time seeing and sometimes dont get as much food as fish with normal eyes and therefore shouldnt be housed with these fish. is this true? i would like to add a black moore to my aquarium, is this a bad idea?

I am in doubt about my friend's tank. Is it overstocked? He has a 75 gallon tank but he's filling it only up to about 60-65 gallons! He has 2 fully-grown Red Pacus and 1 Blind Cave Fish.

I have 2 goldfish in a long 20 gallon tank. the male potbelly calico fantail is approx 3 inches, and the female oranda is much smaller at 2 inches.

initially when i introduced her to the tank, the male chased her around; typical mating behavior.

however, as of late, the female has been nipping at the tail of the larger male. now he has torn tails, so i've separated them with a divider. ive also seen the male rub his belly on the gravel twice. so im not sure if it's ick, or the female oranda.

has anyone heard of a smaller female harassing a larger male before? and if the male does have ick, would treating the tank with melafix destroy the biological filter?

10 points to the best answer! Thanks in advance.

I'm currently cycling my 20 gallon tank, and I've got 3 danios and a few white clouds. Just a minute ago, I noticed one of my danios flashing on the bottom and against some of the rocks. I shone a light on him, but I can't see any ich spots or anything unusual. This is the first time I've noticed any of my fish flashing, and he's the only one doing it. I just did a partial water change yesterday, too.

Should I take him out and put him in a separate tank, or just up the salt levels and raise the temperature as a precaution? I know 86 degrees is the standard for killing ich--will my fish be okay in such a high temp? How long should I keep it that warm? I'm a little worried about the ammonia toxicity if I raise the heat--should I do more frequent water changes/use AmQuel+ if I raise it?

(If I *do* end up taking him out, I'm not looking forward to catching him...man, those danios are fast little buggers =_=.)

RIGHT NOW my balloon molly is swimming vertically, bobbing up and down, and is isolated in a container separate from my other fish. she/he looks stressed and i'm assuming she/he might die really soon, however she/he is very fat and possibly pregnant. does anyone know what is happening? or what i can do?
