i just bought some platies and i am trying to learn as much as i can. thank you guys.

It's not so much age and size,as much as condition and genetics. Some live-bearers are early breeders that stay small while later maturing fish are considerably larger when they breed.
Breeders of prize winning show fish cull the early maturing fish because they will cause the population to become smaller and smaller (in physical size) as the generations continue.

From what I have been learning the fish has to be at least one year old but it could take longer depending on the surroundings and the fish itself

well. i herd(im not positive) but i herd that they only have to be 3 months to breed. i have platys for 3 months and one is pregnant. its older than 3 months thow. i think its a full grown adult thow. well i hoped u learned something.

about 3 months or 1 inch big
