Live in japan. Japanese man gave me them . My kids want to keep them but there are like 50 or more of the little boogers. I got a small set up but not sure how many I can keep in the tank 12liters. Everything is in different measurements here. BUt how do I choose which ones to keep? And what do I do with the rest. I dont speak Japanese and there is not a local pet shop that I know of where I can just give them away. I looked online and could have some pretty valuable fish, and have no clue where they came from. Any ideas will be good. I am not a fish person.

Get at least a 128 litre tank, and you could keep all of them

If you could provide a picture, we could also tell you what you have

You could try to give them away to other friends you have or try to sell them

Hope that helps
Good luck

First of all, a liter is about as much volume as a quart. So, 4 liters approx. = 1 gallon. What you have is about a 3 gallon tank, considered to be very small. If you can, get a larger tank (about10-15 gallons/40-60 liters) and try to raise them. Or even just talk to the staff at the petshop, they may want them or know someone who does.

Whatever you do, never release unwanted fish, plants or snails into a river, natural pond or lake. In the US that is against the law and probably is also illegal in many other places. Even worse than that, as another answerer said, you are introducing non-native wildlife and it will cause problems down the line. Please don't even consider dumping these baby guppies.

Unfortunately, without devoted care, many of them (if they are babies) will die before reaching maturity as they do best with frequent partial water changes. Since you say you are not a fish person and don't seem to really want these fish, I imagine you will see quite a few of them 'disappear.' You could also ask around in your apartment complex, see if you can post a notice, you may be surprised to find someone in your area who will welcome them. You can also check craigslist.com to see if there is a craigslist for your city. There are many international listings!

If I lived in your city I would take them from you but I'm across the ocean.

I wish you lots of luck. It's good that your children want to keep them and raise them, your children must have gentle natures. Please try to find a good, responsible home for the fish if you can't raise them.

Well for now you you would need a fifty gallon tank. HOWEVER! at the rate Guppies breed you will soon meed a bigger tank still. there are many ways to tell males from females the small sleek color full guppy is the male the larger drab color the female. start separating them or you will be in the guppy business for all eternity and it is not a grand money maker.

dont do what the person above me said and dump them somewhere, if they get into rivers and waterways that they do not belong to they will cause serious environmental damage. Ask friends, neighbors, family if they would like some fish

As for your question on how many you can keep in the tank.... however many fish you would be able to line up end to end along the length of the tank is how many you can keep

You can have 16 of these guppies. Then the remaining guppies could be donated or you can make up a guppy pet shop.

I'd find a pond & dump them. Those little buggers will multiply like rabbits! I made the mistake of buying 4 of them; I let the other fish in the tank eat their babies & took the guppies back to the store.

You need one gallon of water per one inch of fish. I doubt you have enough room for them all, and most of them will die.

Cheers
