I've had several neon tetras in my tank for almost a year. All are super healthy, and swim around just fine. We had one die within two days of getting that one, but like I said, its been a year since we got them. Well, the other day I discovered one of the neon's dead. :(

Why did he die? He was swimming around just fine a few hours earlier,no spots, no ick that I saw. He looked healthy. What is their average life span? Maybe it was just his time? I went ahead and put ICK medicine in the tank, just incase but nobody else seems sick.

Are otos the only fish that doesn't run away when something approaches it? I mean I tried to net an oto, and it didn't even put up a fight. All the other fishes run away, but otos just stay there. It did move around a little, swim a just a little but that's it. wtf?

I have an aged salt tank ready for animals, but they are way over priced in the pet stores. I am aware of the 'parasite' scare, but it would be nice to pick up some sea anemones, small crabs, live rock, etc... it would be a 4 hour transport home.

I would like answers from people who are positive it can be done and have the imagination to make it possible, I know you are out there.
All negative people, please go to the teen questions about boyfriends and hello kitty issues.

My Nitrates are very high and I have done 2 30%water changes and still no effect. What will it do to my fish if I do a 75% water change to try and keep the fish I have alive. I have lost 3 in the last 2 days.

Im buy the last couple pounds of live rock to day and after a month of cycling im wondering what fish should i introduce first? I have somewhat of a list of the ones i want and the ones i can house. The blue hippo tang is at the top of my list and im wondering since it is very susceptible to ich should i introduce it first so if it catches it it doesnt spread to the other fish. I also dont have a quarentine tank and dont plan to establish one atm. My list is as follows:

2 true percs
Blue hippo tang
Royal gramma
Three stripe damsel
flame angel/coral beauty or annularis angel (when tank matures)
and others that i might want later on down the road.

I have alot of experience with nano tanks and ive finnaly made the upgrade to bigger and just have a few questions. thanks

Thinking for down the road: I might be moving in the next year or two (hopefully), and it may be well out of state. I have a 6 gallon aquarium with 4 fish in it. It's not saltwater or anything, but three of the fish do require a heater and the fourth one does better with a heater as well. So if I'm going to move somewhere that would require, potentially, a drive that lasts a couple days, how do I bring my fish with me, keep the heaters and filters powered, and avoid dumping a tank full of my fish buddies all over the car?

I bought a Bubble tip anenome about a week ago, and a couple of days ago it got into the spot it likes, but it is wierd, it will be fine at night, and for a hour or so in the morning once the light comes on, but then it will become all small, and it's tentacles no longer are bubbly, but are kind of shrivelled, and are greenish instead of a healthy pink. Like i said, it is odd because there are times when it looks just beautiful, and nothing wrong, and then at other times it looks like this. My water quality is fine, 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and 10 or so nitrates. Any comments, is this normal? Also, my True Percula Clown hasn't gone over to bond with it, will it take a long time? How likely is it that it will never host with it?

I recently cleaned out and changed the water in our goldfish tank. Normally I use spring water in the tank, but last night I filled it with city tap water. I had heard that if that water is left to sit for about 24 hours before the fish are added that the chlorine will be gone enough to be safe for the fish. Is this true? How lond should I wait until I put the goldfish back in?

I just bought a 20 gallon tank for my common goldfish because the 3 gallon tank he is living in now is too small. I rinsed out the new tank, filled it with tap water, rinsed new gravel and added it to the tank, added a new filter, and put in half a cup of gravel and two cups of water from my goldfish's current tank. I added a dissolving tablet that is supposed to level out the pH and remove chlorine and give beneficial bacteria for starting tanks. I read somewhere that I can wait 24 hours and the tank will be cycled and ready to add my goldfish. Is this true? Or do I need to do a few more things? Please help, he is my only fish and I don't want him to die!

Southern California is having a drought. (Not sure about Northern?) Now I'm feeling really guilty and water changes and using tons of water for my fish? How is everyone coping with this? I'm really considering converting my bigtanks into the "All Natural" method, so that I don't have to change water for a long time (3-6 months!) PLEASE, don't be ridiculous and say it's not possible, as it is, because I've done it, and many people have done it.

i have a male dalmation molly that ive now had for about 2 years now. when i had female mollies, it would always chase them and actually act like a male. but then, after the molly that he used to only chase (his "wife" haha. )died, he started acting weird. even though i have two other female mollies in the tank, he only goes for this one male molly his SON( even if i have another male also, and i know that fishes dont know whether they are family or not though. just saying that he's going for his own son). and it's not just normal chasing, it's like, "wanting to mate" chasing.

IS MY FISH GAY ??!?!

someone please help me !!

i think two of my female dalmation mollies are sick . . . they're both
-really really still
-their fins look somewhat slicked back, so their body looks all flat.
-they dont swim, only if i give food or if i try to move them.
-whenever they TRY to swim, they look awkward, the fins on the side looks REALLY stiff.
-they kind of teeter and totter when they're swimming, not really big though.

-and now one of my male mollies are gradually becoming like that too.
-i noticed it today after i came back from school around 2:15..

what's wrong ??
are they sick ?!

they werent like this before..
OH AND TWO DAYS AGO I BOUGHT TWO BALLOON MOLLY FISH AND ADDED THEM TO THE TANK.

could it be because of them ??
