Do you have Paradise gouramis? I have tiger barbs in with mine and they seem to be doing fine. I also have a catfish in my tank too. I would get some hiding places for them and create hiding places also by using plants. Doing that will make it nice for the fish when they want to be left alone for a while from other fish. I have a little pot with a dragon on it from petsmart for them to go in and hide. I wouldn't reccomend buying this paticular pot though because when i scub it the paint comes off and now the whole pot is blue-ish color where i tried to get the fish dirt off of. Anyway a little pot is a good decoration and hiding place. It also depends on how big your tank is.

Gouramis aren't aggressive but I have seen them pick on little fish. I would get something of similar size like barbs or angelfish and a rainbow shark to clean the bottom of the tank

Well, it depends on the type of gourami you have. Dwarve, honey, red flame, snakeskin and the other smaller ones should do fine with small cichlids, catfish, tetras, and barbs.

i have tetras / cherry barbs / sword tails / ghoast knife / red finned shark / pleco in with my gourami and they get on fine some might chase each other now and again but there will always be a pecking order my gourami is shy and loves to hide in the live plants i think as long as you stick with community fish you should be fine

It depends on how much space you have available! how big is the tank? little catfish , some guppeis or a few tetras would probably not disrupt them much. Coarse sand or smal gravel is the best bottom.

different gouramis are different -- do you know what kind of gourami?

how big is your tank?

i gouramis are great with plants -- mine eat the old dying growth so i don't have to worry about it mucking up my tank. i have sunset honey gouramis and pearl gouramis. the sunsets are eating machines.
