i have a male dalmation molly that ive now had for about 2 years now. when i had female mollies, it would always chase them and actually act like a male. but then, after the molly that he used to only chase (his "wife" haha. )died, he started acting weird. even though i have two other female mollies in the tank, he only goes for this one male molly his SON( even if i have another male also, and i know that fishes dont know whether they are family or not though. just saying that he's going for his own son). and it's not just normal chasing, it's like, "wanting to mate" chasing.

i think it would be hard to say male fish get some kind of pleasure out of using their gonpodium.

goldfish will chase other male fish as an act of dominance -- kind of like a dominant lion would oversee both males and females in his pride.

or maybe his son wiggles his butt a lot and it makes him hot. i really don't think homosexuality in fish is much studied and most homosexuality in animals is generally tucked underneath big denial issues. in biology you can watch films of giraffes banging other male giraffes and they claim its just for dominance -- like they poll the giraffes to find out if they are getting anything out of the experience.

You know i thought about that with my fish. I think in your case, it might just be trying to establish its own dominance as the only dominant male in the tank and if there are any other males (whether his son or not) he is just trying to assert it..

On a side note.. I had 3 black mollies. 2 females and 1 male. Both females were pregnant then last week i moved them to a 55 gallon and all of a sudden i had 2 males!!! My PREGNANT female molly turned into a male!!! lol so I suppose fish do whatever they want to.

There are "gay" penguins at the Bronx Zoo. They're both taking care of a fake egg > it's actually a rock (who knows if they know it's a rock) it's possible to have "gay" fish.

I don't think your fish is gay... I think maybe he sees similar markings of that of the "wife" Maybe introducing a few fish females of course and maybe trying a solid white a solid black and a new dalmation. be interesting who he decides to be attracted to. fish are not very smart and maybe this male has not figured out that his son does not have the correct anatomy. but then again , maybe his son is getting "the talk" from good ole dad.

There are gay deer, there are gay fruitflies. It's possible. I don't know anything about those particular fish, but maybe its a dominance mechanism....the figh might be "guarding" the other females... or yes, its possible the fish is sexually attracted to another male.

not impossible. there are several animals that have been found to display mating behaviors to the same sex. This includes birds, dogs, apes, and horses! why not fish?
