I breed guppies, and I want to get another fish in my 20 gallon tank to make it more lively. So should I get:

-2 mollies
-2 platies
-2 tetras

I know 2 tetras are not enough, but I don't want to take up too much room in my tank. I'm worried that the platies & mollies will either die from the guppy chasing, or have babies. What should I do? Any other fish suggestions that can go with guppies?

Please answer!

i recently started a lake malawi tank and received several species from a friend that he bred himself. they are all still only maybe an inch long roughly. I have noticed the black band on the dorsal fin of my electric yellows have all become faded and paler. It may just be me but the bodies seem paler as well. the fish eat regularly and appear in good health so im wondering what may have caused this.

temp 78 F
general hardness 120
carbonate hardness 120
pH 6.5
Im not a beginer so obviously theres no ammonia or nitrite so dont ask me silly questions like do you feed them or change the water. the ph is low, i know, my friend says he never messes with ph and hes bred many cichlids so i didnt change it. if that could be what it is than could anyone also tell me if its ok to change ph drasticly from 6.5 to 8ish without stressing the fish.

any thoughts would be appreciated

I have no snails in my tropical aquarium only neon tetras and guppies. I keep seeing very small brown eggs floating on the water surface - are these eggs of the neons or some other parasite or insect?

How do you clean a breeders net wit fry in it? I have about 20 molly fry that are 1 week old in a breeders net, and I wanted to use my gravel vacuum to clean the bottom of the net but I am scared of sucking a baby up. Is their a safe way to do this?

I posted this question before my guppy is chasing my platy and looks like its attacking it....but I'm not sure.
They are both yellow, its a male guppy, and the guppy is alot smaller than the platy.
I have 3 male guppies, 1 platy, 1 mollie, 4 tetras, 1 plec.

I have emptied the tank of all decor- removed all parts of the filters and they are just gone! I have a 40 gallon tank and its covered and on my counter so they didnt jump out or they wouldnt have gone far-No pets that can get any where near them and Its an established tank. I just added 4 gold tetras and 3 platies to my tank and 3 of the tetras are gone! I have a gourami and he leaves my neons alone so that cant be it? Do the fish really just "dissolve"?

Before I started breeding guppies, I had one swordtail or platy, I can't remember, and 2 male guppies. The male guppies literally chased the swordtail/platy to DEATH! I'm getting 2 platies tomorrow, and I'm just wondering if they will be fine with 6 guppies? Or would a molly be better?

I have finally decided that I want to get a Platy for my tank! I breed guppies, and I have 7 adults, 14 babies, and 1 algae eater in a 20 gallon tank. My tank is SO boring with just guppies swimming around in it, so I decided to get a Platy. My question is, should I get one, or two? Please answer!

I'm going to get a 75 gallon tank with 1 largemouth bass and 1 crappie in it. I know this will be a large bioload. What kind of filter do you recommend, canister, power, undergravel, U.V. Sterilizer, Etc., Etc. I think the most commonly used for this size of tank is canister. Is this the best type. After you choose best type, please give me specific name brands and model. I am definetly not going to spend more that $150 on a filter. Thanks!

I have a 10 gallon tank (freshwater). I recently added a rock from a petstore. I am not sure what it is called. After I added it to my tank, I checked the pH and the pH 6.0 ppm and it was used to be 7.0 ppm. How do I know if it is the rock that changed the water to 6ppm. Also, when I added the rock, there were bubbles coming from it. I am not sure what to do! Help! How do I fix it?

And please give me a reason why the pH changed?

I have a 10 gallon tank (freshwater) with 2 Cherry Barb and 2 Cory Cats. These fish have been here since January.

Thank you in advance.

Yesterday I recognized that one of my gouramis had some bulges on the sides of it's body right behind its gills.

Up until today I thought I had two male gouramis until someone explained that the males have a more distinguishable color while the females are plain. The reason I thought they were both males was because when I saw them at Petsmart, the tank they were in said that they were "Male Dwarf Gouramis". Go figure...

Any way, what do you think the problem could be? Does she have a disease or is she ready to breed with the male? If she is, can anyone who is familiar with breeding dwarf gouramis give me some tips on breeding them? Thanks to all that help me.

And to help you and me to see if it is a male or female and if she or he has a disease or is ready to breed, here a few pics:

I know I asked this same question earlier, but everyone told me that one is not needed. What I am asking here is would it do any good to have one, or would my bass not even care.

I've already asked a question like this before, and I've finally chose a molly! Now I'm wondering if a molly will go good with 6 adult guppies, 14 babies, and a Siamese algae eater? The babies are in a fry net, so the molly cannot get at them. But what I'm trying to say is, when one of my guppies gives birth, will the molly consume the babies before I can get them in the fry net? Because my guppies don't seem to notice their babies. Someone please answer!

(i initially got velvet when i purchased fish from a local retail pet store grrr)

keep in mind i would like something that will not take much time, but will also do the job well.
