I have emptied the tank of all decor- removed all parts of the filters and they are just gone! I have a 40 gallon tank and its covered and on my counter so they didnt jump out or they wouldnt have gone far-No pets that can get any where near them and Its an established tank. I just added 4 gold tetras and 3 platies to my tank and 3 of the tetras are gone! I have a gourami and he leaves my neons alone so that cant be it? Do the fish really just "dissolve"?

One thing to keep in mind is fish like easy food. Fish that might not ever cross each other while alive, won't waste time eating a dead body. If you have a decent filter system the rest willl decompose. Those are pretty small fish and it shouldn't take much to make them "Disolve". Now if you have a full gown Oscar disappear let me know.

Well, fish don't just disappear...depending on the type of gourami...he could very well eat a Neon Tetra...not extremely common but has happened...You don't by chance have a pleco or any sort of bottom feeder in there? They have been known to pick off tetras at night when they sleep near the bottom of the tank.
What other type of fish are in there?
Do you have a cat?
Could the fish jumped out and either flopped its way under a piece of furniture or been eaten by a pet in the house?

aggressive gourami?
Is the gourami a full grown adult and are, or were, the tetras small. Gouramis can be and are considered an aggressive fish. I do not think the fish can just "dissolve" like that. Sorry for your loss, :(.....

Other than that, I'm stumped!!! Here are some other suggestions:
aliens?
fish thieves?
practical joke?
don knotts as "mr. limpet"?
I know platys and gouramis will eat their young. Were the tetras small enough?
bottom feeders?

ha! it's gotta be the 3yr old!!! just kidding.

First be carful to check they are no dead bodies or remains in the substrate or in the decor.
Secondly fish decay so quickly.I once had a cory, I couldn't find him anywhere eventually the came to the conclused he'd decayed incredibly fast.
Other fish could eat them usually gouramis should be kept in pairs depending on the species usually dwarfs should be kept in couples.
Depending on the size and aggression of the gourami could mean he's eating them, but its usually whether they fit in hi mouth.
If your tetra's have died they may have decayed, been nibbled on - snails eat dead fish very fast., and eventually just dissoloved.

By the way I reckon its not your 3 year old son....

Are you sure the Gourami didn't eat them?

I've had a couple of small fish die and their bodies come to rest in obscure locations within the tank. If their tankmates had nibbled on them a bit more before I found the remains, I probably would have never figured out what exactly happened to them.

I think its the kid. Fish don't disappear. You didn't mention if you had a cat or not. If fish were to jump a cat wouldn't be able to resist a flopping meal. I seriously don't think it would happen to ALL the fish in the tank though, its not uncommon for fish to jump out, but it doesn't happen too often. So maybe one or two might make a leap but I don't think they would collectively all jump. If the kid has taken fish out before then, he may be still doing it when you are not looking.

they can decay rather quickly and once dead other fish and inverts will do quite a number on the flesh that remains. so only the bone structure would be left and that to could easily fall apart and scattter through out the tank and lay to rest in the gravel or hidden in the other decor you may have in the tank. So with all other things you mentioned thats the only possibility left.

Check every top corner of your fish take. Sometimes my fish hides there. One time it took me an hour trying to find them.

Do you have snails in tank? They will eat dead bodies fast.
