I breed guppies, and I want to get another fish in my 20 gallon tank to make it more lively. So should I get:

-2 mollies
-2 platies
-2 tetras

I know 2 tetras are not enough, but I don't want to take up too much room in my tank. I'm worried that the platies & mollies will either die from the guppy chasing, or have babies. What should I do? Any other fish suggestions that can go with guppies?

Please answer!

I would say two male platys would be the best choice.

As you know, the tetras really do far better in a larger group, so that would keep them from being my top choice.

The Mollys really need more salt in the water than guppies do, so I would say no to them as well, which leaves you with the platys.

By selecting two males, the male guppies won't chase and bother them like they would female platys. Also, that will prevent you from having platy babies to crowd your tank.

I suggest a cory catfish. They are very lively and they will help to keep your gravel/substrate clean by eating any leftover food that falls to the bottom. I have some in my guppy tank and they are very cute and busy, always mooching along the bottom of the tank busily and not hiding away like plecos do. They will occasionally dart up to the surface for a breath of air and when they stop for a rest they move their eyes down and up rapidly which makes them look like they are blinking. So cute! They are lots of fun to watch and mostly stick to the bottom portion of the tank and won't infringe on the guppy territory and they never bother even the smallest of fry, while there's always a risk that the other fish you listed might be fin nippers. Especially if you get too few tetras to form a proper school. That tends to make them cranky and more aggressive. Also there's always a chance that mollies or platys might eat your guppy fry.

Your mollies or platies wouldn't die from the guppy chasings. It might be better if you get the platies or the mollies and get a school of Neon Tetras.

Well I suggest maybe a bottom feeder.....corydoros/ plec or similar catfish for the botton.
Corys are a better option: copper
peppered
panda

Guppies probably wont chase bottom feeders.
Avoid any betta, fighter or similar finned or tailed fish.
And you have a community aquarium on your hands here.....Gouramis are a good option, kissing species are fun to watch as they kiss each other for heat...you will need 2 or more for this.
Rasboras are similar to tetras so harlequin or red tailed ones are a great option.

Whatever you choose balance out your tank to : surface
mid water
bottom

Guppies are surface feeders so try to balance it out.
Avoid aggressive or semi aggressive fish, sharks, barbs.
Hope you make your decision!
