I have lots of fish and tanks!,more of the hardy type, guppies, platies, bettas, simple fish, I reccently bought a 36 gallon tank and was thinking of getting 3 black mollies 1 male 2 female, Iv read somewhere that they get ich or whitespot very easily, Is this true, And are they as hardy and easy to care for as guppies and platies, And do they require Salt in the water?, Thanks

I have a tank, about 50 litres in volume, with a filter and have two medium goldfish, one celestrial fish, one medium fish I don't know the name of but its very colourful, two wether loaches and two small crayfish but am unsure how much to feed them?
I have had them for about three months and started feeding them about half a tea spoon twice a day, then a friend of mine said to feed them half a tea spoon once a day and I went to a pet specialist in town about a week ago because the water was very coloudy all the time and she said she feeds her fish about half a teaspooon three times a week maximum,
That seemed very little but I tried it and the water has cleared nicely but I am worried I am starving them?
Any one know the right ammount to feed them all?

Thankyou ! ! x x

What are the telltale signs of stress in freshwater fish? I just put two fish in my 2.5gallon tank which i added some chemicals to remove the chlorine, they have been in the tank for about 8 hours now and they seem really jumpy.

I noticed before when i introduced my clown fish into a new tank (immediatly after i filled it with water) one seemed to be floating towards the surface gasping for air. I also noticed the colour of the fish getting darker and less vibrant. what does this mean?

I have just put in two tiny female swordtails (at least thats what i think they are) into my small tank to start a cycle and i tried feeding them but they don't seem to eat.

The pellets i use don't seem to fit in their mouths and sink to the bottom of the tank. When i put in flakes, they nip at them but they spit them back out and now the bottom of my 2.5 liter tank is littered with flakes. THere are flakes all over the place, I use rocks as substrate and there are pellets and flakes stuck in between them, there are also flakes on in my java fern and java moss plants.

is there another way to feed these fish that is less messy? my tank is really narrow and tall so it is difficult to clean it.

I have taken many suggestions on what to do with new tank syndrome including water changes, etc. It seems to have helped since I test stripped the water and the levels all came back ok with the exception of the nitrites. Any reason why the nitrite level would still be high considering everything else came back ok? I only have 6 fish in the tank ( worm, 2 mollies, 2 platys and a corey) and cannot figure out why it's still at such a toxic level. Any ideas?

I attempted to clean my Betta fish's tanks. I tried those siphon's that are sold in the pet store. Top Fin makes mine. I did what the directions said and nothing happened. The water filled the large part that is inserted into the tank, but it didn't siphon out. I only have a three gallon tank and my Betta seemed a bit annoyed that I was agitating the water to get the siphon to work. Is there another way to make it work? Are there mechanical siphons out there? I feel like this is an old-fashioned way of doing this.

I puchased a sole about eight weeks ago. The shop keeper told me it was a fresh water sole. Soles are quite rare apparently, and when i read up on them on the web, it said that most of them prefer brackish water as they get older. I went back to the shop and told the guy this but he didn't seem to know much. Anyway it lived for about three weeks then died. It did eat food so it didn't die of stravation as alot of them do. Anyway my boyfriend brought three more soles yesterday, they are babies, they are the same size as ten pence piece and the shop keeper told him they will only grow to four inches. Scott asked the shop keeper if they are def fresh water, and he assured him they were. The thing is how can we be sure. I don't want them to die from being in the wrong type of water. Is there anyone out there who knows about fresh water soles and wot they look like, so we know for sure they are the fresh water variety. Thankyou

I read somewhere before that we shouldn't buy fish of the same species in a pair. The idea is that one of the fish will be more dominant and bully the weaker one. This will cause stress in the weaker fish.By having more than 2 fish, the bullying will be more distributed and not focused on just one fish. This reduces stress on the weaker ones.(It was also said a pecking order will be established in the species.)Thus,it was recommended to buy just one fish or more than 2,never in a pair. What do you think?

Can you suggest sea creatures, corals, sponges etc. that could possibly be made to look like bathroom fixtures.
for example an open shell with an oyster in it can look like a soap case...a largish coral can be made to look like a bath tub.

Is a tropical environment too advanced for a beginner like me? I was thinking about acouple livebearers, glassfish, and platys. If it is, I might go with fantails, tiger barbs and red rosy minnows.

I went to petsmart and bought a (what i think is) a Plecostomus Catfish. I wanted two for a 10 gal tank, but the people at petsmart said to only get one because they do grow and the tank wont be able to support 2. But people have been asking why i even have one in a 10 gal tank when they will grow as big as the tank itself! And even based on a picture i saw of one as long as a man's arm! When I got mine, he was only 2 inches long, and 4 months later hes 2.5 inches long. A Plecostomus Catfish has the same coloration and features as the fish I have, except the size, that is. Is there a miniture size of this fish? Mines not even as long as my hand! And yet the ones i see are as long as someone's arm? WOW. If he is going to grow as big as my tank, and turn my tank to a poop-box, is there anything that will replace him and go peacefully with Betta fish and/or guppies? (they're in separate tanks of course, the betta and guppies, I dont even have bettas yet) in 10 gallon tanks please! Thanks!
