i have 4 tiger barbs ( soon to more ) a cichlid and a red tailed shark

SOunds like you're about to top out the tank actually. Once you have some more barbs and they grow a bit they will need the room. Also the shark can get to a fairly respectable size and no telling about the cichlid, some top out at 1.5", some at 2 feet plus so it depends on which cichlid you have as to what can go in the tank. I wouldn't suggest adding anything without knowing what type of cichlid is already in the tank.

You could try some more malawi cichlids... like kenyi or yellow lion - they'll get to be about 4 inches. I would suggest gouramis, but the cichlids might view them as competition and the barbs may go after their fins. Rainbowfish might also work, they can get up to 4 inches as well, but most varieties like softer water than cichlids. Goodluck!
