I went to petsmart and bought a (what i think is) a Plecostomus Catfish. I wanted two for a 10 gal tank, but the people at petsmart said to only get one because they do grow and the tank wont be able to support 2. But people have been asking why i even have one in a 10 gal tank when they will grow as big as the tank itself! And even based on a picture i saw of one as long as a man's arm! When I got mine, he was only 2 inches long, and 4 months later hes 2.5 inches long. A Plecostomus Catfish has the same coloration and features as the fish I have, except the size, that is. Is there a miniture size of this fish? Mines not even as long as my hand! And yet the ones i see are as long as someone's arm? WOW. If he is going to grow as big as my tank, and turn my tank to a poop-box, is there anything that will replace him and go peacefully with Betta fish and/or guppies? (they're in separate tanks of course, the betta and guppies, I dont even have bettas yet) in 10 gallon tanks please! Thanks!

there is a such things as a dwarf pleco. what you could do is do a little more research on this, i have a 10 gal too and i wanted to get a pleco, and i heard of a dwarf pleco my "mom and pop" fish store said they could order for me. try that. also try this website out about other types of fish you might like.

www.aquariumfish.net

good luck

o, petco has this little catfish thing its so cute and only gets like 2 ins big, i found them in the guppy tank, its not a pleco i dont think, but you can try and check that out, i never go the name but the last time i was there it was like 1.50 each.

good luck!

Any pleco is going to be too big for a 10g tank, they all get large, 8+ inches for most species and up to 2 feet for the common pleco.

If algae is an issue get a Siamese algae eater or a Nerite Snail. these things will not bother your other fish.

There are small ones but if yours looks like the large one then guess what you have, they often called tank busters in other words they will grow far too large for an average tank, they don't become stunted they just grow and grow.

I would take it back and tell them what you want it for if its to clean up algae then get a Siamese algae eater, if its to clear up left over food then i would suggest a couple of small cory cats.

There are thousands of different types of Plecos.

Some grow large, some stay small.

I recommend Otocinclus Catfish. I find they do a better job on algae than Plecos, and stay small.

There are hundreds(at least),maybe thousands. You should do your research before you buy a fish. To get a hint of the size of their family Google "Loricaridae",and that's just the tip of the "iceberg"(?).

No matter what the pet store says, they can't breed them to be a small or large breed. They will still grow no matter what.
