I set up my new aquarium. I did everything the instruction book said. Then my aquarium began to get dirty. I cleaned it and a few days later, it got dirty. I went to buy a replacement filter and it didi help clean my aquarium. And now, instead of the aquarium getting dirty, my fish are dying. All of my first fish died. I got them about 1 1/2 months ago, beggining of March. I got four fish this time. One died today, around a few hours ago. Can anyone tell me why my fish are dying. I told my parents its the carbon rock or its that aqua safe liquid that makes tap water safe for fish. I don't know. I started to realised something was wrong when my fish began to act retarted. They kept crashing into the walls of the aqarium or they did fips to drown themself. One of the fish kept jumping out of the water so it could fall into the floor and die. I guess it worked because the fish must of fallen at night because when I woke in the morning it was dead. What is wrong? Anyone please help? Thanks!

Today the whole day my beta fish has hung out at the top of his tank. Yesterday i cleaned it and used a new brand of water, Kirkland Spring Water, for his bowl. I did what i normally do with the water usage and all, but when I woke up today he was at the top of the tank (normally is NEVER there except to breathe) and he has hung out up there the whole day, I'm not sure he's come down at all. Whats wrong with him? Did i use the wrong water? Is there not enough oxygen? Is he dying? I am really worried about him, because this is such abnormal behavior for him.

When fully open the center is about 3-4 inches wide and the tenicals are around 4-5 inches long. It is white with a pink base and has pink / purpe tips. I took pictures but can not figure out how to post them.

My daughter was given a small 1.5 gallon aquarium for her birthday. The best place we could think to put it in our small apartment was in her bathroom (on the counter next to the sink). I was just reading some warnings about replacing the water in the tank, bacteria and the handling of "old" aquarium water. I'm wondering if it's safe to have an aquarium in the same place my daughters brush their teeth and take a bath. Any precautions I should take? (We only have two goldfish in this little tank.)

I have an "infestation" of this algae in my tank. It is really long black threads all over my plants. I have been told that is just black hair algae but pictures i have seen are not as close to being as long as mine. Maybe it is just mine is overgrown? What can i use to get rid of it. I have heard of Siamese algae eaters as being really good?

This is going to be a two-part question actually. Here is what I have: 1 Fantail, 1 Oranda, in a 10 gal aquarium. I know it's time to up-grade to a larger aquarium. I eventually want to add to them 2 Lionheads. What size aquarium do you recommend? I'm thinking a minimum 55 gallon.

And, if that is the case ~ does anyone out there know how much a 55 gallon weighs when it is full of water? We are moving to a different house in the next month or so and I want to get an idea of how much actual weight I'm looking at.

I've recently gotten very interested in having/caring for pet fish. I had a Betta for the past 13 months, it just died however. So now I'm thinking about looking into getting a saltwater tank, but I'm not sure how much maintenance they require. How difficult is it to keep a saltwater tank? What advice would you give?

The main thing I'm worried about is cleaning the tank. My betta tank seemed to acquire algae really fast and I would end up having to spend like 3-4 hours cleaning it every couple of weeks. How hard is it to keep a saltwater tank clean? Are there any types of saltwater fish or plants that help reduce algae buildup? Thanks for your help!

should I put some in? and if yes, how much?

and, in the "super ick cure" directions it says, remove the carbon from the filter, add 5ml of medicine per every 5 gallons. I couldn't remove the carbon, will that really make a difference? it said scaleless fish are sensitive to this medicine so, put half the dose. I put 15ml instead of 30. (my tank is really 33 but I made it if it was 30) it said repeat dose after 48 hours, and 48 hours after the second dose, do a water change. I am seriously due for a water change, would it matter if I did a water change during those 4 days? would it make the process faster or less effective? thanx

I have a 29 gallon biocube with 2 other pj cardinals and zenia, star polyps, and mushrooms. If I treat the tank with meds I will likely lose all of my snails, corals, etc. I have a quarantine tank set up for them, but was told that if I quarantined them the ick would still be present in the tank. Is my best option to raise the temp a bit (currently at 78) to 80 and drop the salinity to 1.020? If I did this could I put the corals in the quarantne tank to ensure that the lowering of the salinity doesn't killl them?

Hello, I was wondering because I've recently set up a 55 gallon satwater aquarium and have a number of fish. The guy at the fish store said what I have now they all go together but I just want to make sure. They've been together for a short while now with no problems, except having to bring back the 2 damsels that I had started the tank with they, went after my Picasso fish. I have 1--3" picasso, 1 --4" foxface rabbitfish, 1-3" porcupine puffer, 1 -- 5" dogface puffer, 1 chocolate chip star fish, 1--4" diamond back gobie, and 1--3.5" niger trigger. I also wanna know if that is too much fish for the tank as well or can I get anymore?

Thanks.

*There is axproximently 50lbs of rock in the tank as well-would i need more rock?.*

I want to set up an African rocky lake with my 10-gallon. The only problem is, I don't know how much weight the bottom of the tank can hold. I have it on a solid oak stand (not a lip-only, but solid) and I don't want to crack the glass by putting in rocks that are too heavy. I've got 2 inches of silver sand laid down, but how many pounds of rocks can I set in my tank without the bottom cracking from the stress?

My black moor male mated with my goldfish female. I have about 50 fry and they are about 10 days old. What will they look like when they get older?? Has anyone successfully breed a mixed pair like mine before and if so what did the fry look like? Any opinions would be appreciated too.
thanx guys

Hi, I'm curious about these Killi Fish. Are these freshwater fish, and can they survive in high ph (8)? Are they easy to hatch? Are they agressive? Will pet shops (like petsmart) take the extras if I try to sell them?

I have a community tank, with -
1 corycat, 1 pleco, 2 gourami's, 2 plattys, 4 zebra danios, & 1 redtailed shark, so far...

I'm thinking about getting a setup to hatch 50 killi eggs with the hatch container setup, but I don't know the first thing about these fish! Any and all info about them would be helpful and appriciated!
Thank you for your help!!!

He has always been very aggressive. He's REALLY bad now! he won't let other fish anywhere on the left side of the tank. I tried putting him in our "aggressive" tank with a Buttikoferi and two african cichlids and he got pummeled by the Buttikoferi so he went back into the peaceful tank. I checked the water and it's good, I added Amquel and salt for good meaure but it hasn't helped. All my other fish are happy and healthy, he's the only one being mean. He's also flashing at other fish and his eyes have turned a fierce red color (Like angelfish sometimes do) what gives?

Hi, I have a 10 gallon fish tank with 2 baby goldfish in it at present, I'm aware this is too small and plan to upgrade soon. Anyway the tank has been running for about 10 weeks and there is no sign of nitrate, or even nitrite with the test kit I am using. It is the tetratest 5 in 1. I don't have an ammonia test kit so Im unsure of these readings. I was just wondering if anyone could help me with whats going on and why the tank hasn't yet cycled.

One baby goldfish died with no clear signs of disease so I repaced it. Both fish now seem fine healthy as far as being active and eating goes, however they both scratch/flick on the corners of the tank from time to time, all fish that have been in my tank have displayed this behaviour. I was wondering if someone could enlighten me on why they are doing this. I thought it may have been due to the tank being in the cycling process which could be stressful to them, but it has been 10 weeks now. The tank has an ornament, filter, gravel etc.

I have a bunch of leftover tropical fish flakes from when I used to keep Tropical fish. Now I am only keeping goldfish. Is it safe to feed them this food or should I stick to strictly goldfish flakes?

I know nothing. My fish do not have ich. If they should ever have ich, my vet doesn't treat fish. If I were to try the salt cure and it doesn't work, then I would have to try the chemical cure, which would work, right? Then how would I get all of that salt and chemicals out of my aquarium?

My assumption, from reading all of your answers, is that salt is much safer in the water than the chemicals.

My fish are very stressed now from cycling and water changes so I'm watching them closely.
