Today the whole day my beta fish has hung out at the top of his tank. Yesterday i cleaned it and used a new brand of water, Kirkland Spring Water, for his bowl. I did what i normally do with the water usage and all, but when I woke up today he was at the top of the tank (normally is NEVER there except to breathe) and he has hung out up there the whole day, I'm not sure he's come down at all. Whats wrong with him? Did i use the wrong water? Is there not enough oxygen? Is he dying? I am really worried about him, because this is such abnormal behavior for him.

It might be shocked from the sudden change in water type. Try going back to the old water, or if you have no other option but the new water try slowly acclimating him to the new water by starting back to the old water and gradually at every water change, add a small amount of the new water to the old water. Increase it the amount of new water every time by a 1/4 cup untill all the water he has in his tank is new water. Hope this helps.

Perhaps the water was a shock to his system. I usually don't do an entire tank change...Only change out 1/3rd of the water every other week. It works really well. I'm not sure what to tell you as far as if he's sick...is he eating well, still? That could be key also.

The water temps might be off and he may not be used to the water. Switch back ASAP! And keep the water around 72-78 degrees. They're a tropical fish.

How much of the water did you change? Did you use a water conditioner? Do you see any other symptoms (like white spots)?

I would recommend that you go to the pet store where you bought him and explain it to them. You should also bring a substantial sample of the water with you so that they can test it.

Good luck!

I would suggest you go back to whatever water you were using before. Also check his water temperature. This isn't unusual in warmer water.
