My black moor male mated with my goldfish female. I have about 50 fry and they are about 10 days old. What will they look like when they get older?? Has anyone successfully breed a mixed pair like mine before and if so what did the fry look like? Any opinions would be appreciated too.
thanx guys

Orhan has a point since blacks are a hybred gold fish the majority of your little ones will be the dom. color of gold. Around 80 % will be gold, 15% calico and 5% black that is to say they all hatched. .

unfortunately breeding like keeping is a guess since as no two fish are the same, no two tanks are the same. you could get lucky with your gold being from a moore and have a higher does of the blacks. This will depend on the lineage of the fish more than who breeds with who. It is a whole complecated breeding thing. My daugher is the one perfect to answer this question.

Feel free to email and I'll have her explain the breeding genes and color process. Quite frankly, it boars the crap out of me. i am just happy to see the little guys!

Mixies. They will definately be mutants, because of the different shapes. Some will not be able to swim right, and others will be just fine. I suspect that the goldfish will be the most common shape, but black with some gold tint would be the color.

Post pics when they get older, or email them to me. I love breeding fish, but for me its mostly livebearers, betta, and oscar. ^.^

They will probably mostly look like the "regular" goldfish. Black moors are highly bred with rather recessive genes that probably won't show too much in this batch of babies.

Make sure you have a good place for them to hide, a small closed section of the tank. . . mom and dad will eat them. They will look like sea monkies for a while.
