Hi I bought a beautiful blue fish with 2 long fins and a long tail. In Hebrew it is called a battle fish because it cannot live with other fish except guppies. Can anyone tell me the name of this fish in English, I would like to avoid its near death as with the other goldfish. Thanks

We have 2 goldfish in a 40 x 20 cm tank. They were recently brought home by my daughter who won them at a fair. One is long finned, the other is your plain, everyday goldfish. Both are quite small (about 4-5 cm in length). We've decked out their tank with various pebbles, shells and stones to make it interesting for them, but it's not a proper tank with filters etc. so it gets pretty smelly quite quickly and needs water changes very often.
We have a kind of shallow well in the garden, not very deep, about 2 metres from top ground level to water surface, with about 1 metre of pure, clear, underground,up-filtering water constantly present. At the moment it's inhabited by 2 frogs which fell in there about 3 years ago and have now grown quite large and seem happy in their environment. They obviously survive on mosquito larvea and other water borne life to have survived and grown this long.
Can I add my goldfish in there or could they be indangered by the frogs? And do we need to feed them

We have about 40 guppy fry as well as four adult females and 2 adult males. We would like to continue to breed.. and try to avoid having fry get eaten, so we're trying to figure out the best setup of different tanks to maximize output. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to set this up, how to sort them out, what size tanks work well, etc? Thanks so much

I decided about 5 weeks ago to get my tank going again. I cleaned it with just water, used 50% new ground pebbles and 50% old ground pebbles (from when my tank was running before). I cleaned all the pebbles VERY well under warm water. I also put in 3 items that I had in there before; a large stone that the fish can swim in and out of, a piece of wood, and a colorful greek pillar thingy. All the items were in storage in a box in my attic, and cleaned VERY well before putting them back in the tank. I have a dual layer external filter with large stones and a rough filter pad on the bottom layer and smaller stones and a fine filter pad on top. I also have a Nitrit bag in the filter to keep the water clear. The filter is old, but everything inside is new. I put in 1 bottle of the filter starter.

I am using Nitravec to try and get the Nitrate levels down, but they are not dropping. I don't have any fish or plants in the tank yet. I did a 1/3 water change and cleaned the filter

I have one percula clown that doesn't look to well. There is no visible disease or marks that would cause him to die. He seems to sit on the bottom all the time and sometimes leans to one side, and only come up for food which he sometimes doesn't. I have one larger percula clown, one condi-lactin anemone (doesn't sting me when I touch it, so I don't think that's the problem), and one peppermint shrimp. I have tested my water about a week ago (three days after I had bought the larger percula), and everything is the best it can be. He's been like this for a few days. I heard that clown fish have their little quirks, but does this usually happen? And he is probably not sleeping because he is like this almost all the time. Please help!!!

Most of my fishes did same before they died. After shrimp died ( symbiosis partner of goby) goby is the only one left. Since worms became a finger size and I saw while they re attacked some sick fishes, I decided to kill them all. I boiled stones, sand, half of water. So all reef and ecosystem died. I put one quarter new water and one quater old filtered water without sterilezed, so that new bacterias grow again. Salt level is low but acceptable. PH is too low. amonia and nitrite are not ideal but acceptable level. Nitrate is high. I added Calsium, iodine, Moynb, other minarales and micro inverebrate foods for new reef growth. after 6hours I took gobi to the aquarium. Water is muddy but ox rich. I fed and he ate. but now he is more active then normal and do the same thing which other fishes did before they died. He goes to air column and uses air bubbles to reach surface and dive. Anybody know it reason or what causes that ?

My male guppie was alone for a long time, (2 weeks) Then I bought 2 females and he mated with them for like 3 days straight. Its been about two weeks not and hes been acting very strangely. He wont eat, Isolates himself, His eyes look darker, and his color looks brighter(color) and darker. Its been about 4 days of this, Im kinda surprised that he hasn't starved. Should I kill him to put him out of what ever misery he might be going through. (cold water) or will he just snap out of it.

I just bought some Japonica shrimp for a school project, but I've never had fish or any other aquatic pet before. I've looked up some info on them, but for people who have fish or other aquarium-dwelling pets: How do you set up an aquarium/ take care of your animals?

I have exactly 4 Tiger Barbs, and one elephanose left.I had a knifefish,6 tiger barbs and a pleco. But for some reason they keep dying, ive checked the pH,ive checked and none of them seems to have ick or anything, ive treated for annomia, ive cleaned the tank COMPLETELY,taken everything out and washed it by hand but nothing seems to work.I really dont know what to do anymore and im starting to think its the elephantnose killing them, but ive seen no signs of agression torwards him at night/day at all so im kinda getting desperate on this.Any sugguestions to what else could be making my fish die?

Please document why you need to use toxic chemicals instead of aquarium salt.
http://www.fishdoc.co.uk/disease/whitespot.htm clearly states that "treatment is prolonged salt immersion at 1-2 ppt (parts per thousand), i.e. 1-2 grams per litre" and mentions no dangerous chemicals like formaldehyde, copper sulfite or malachite green. I want to keep my aquarium as free from chemicals as possible.

I have had my sunburst platy for at least 2 or 3 months and all of a sudden he just stopped eating. He is a lot smaller than my other sunburst now. I have not made any changes, I have not added fish, or anything. So I went to the store and bought a breader and took the stuff inside out so it was bigger. So I tryed to feed him in there, thinking maybe he couldnt get to his food because of the other fish and I dont think it has help. Now, for the past couple days he has been slowing down and he is laying on the bottom of the rocks. Please Help!!!! What happen??
