Well, First I went to a aquarium shop and ALMOST bought 3 goldfish, until the cashier told me that 5 were lucky! So ya! Then I cleaned the tank (a Waterhome 3) and filled it with blue gravel. After a few days with my fishies, I had to clean the tank, 'cause it was getting dirty! I put my fish in a bowl for awhile until it were clean. However, my oranda's didn't seem "normal" in there they kept going upside down but were breathing normaly. So I put them back in, thinking that they would be okay in the morning. But I woke up at 2:00 a.m. and they were all "different looking" in the corner of the tank. I stired it a little and it seemed that they were fine after......The next morning, I saw they were fine, but 1 had died.....After 1-2 weeks, 1 of my Goldfish were growing black splotches, but dissapeared in less than 3 weeks, but was passed on to my other Oranda!!! After 9-11 days the second Goldfish died. Is this a disease, old age or something else.....Pppplllleeeeaaaasssseeee answer!:((

I've always gone by 10% per week. I base this on nitrate and phosphate levels in the tank and overall cleanliness. I've seen a lot of people on here that do 20-25% per week. Why so much? What is your water change amount based on? Can you also include some data in your answers such as what your nitrates and phosphates are before and after your water changes? I would really like to compare other peoples data and maintenance to my own.

It took us over 2 months to get the nitrites stable in our new 10 gallon aquarium. We put our goldfish in the aquarium and everything was great for a few months. The 2 goldfish we had were lively and enjoying life and the water testing was right on track. Then we introduced about 4 more goldfish from the pet store. I came home from work the following evening and all of the fish were infected with ich covering 50% of their bodies. I quarentined them all to new water, but they all died. Our tank has been sitting empty for a month now (with the filter still running). We are not sure what to do from here. We don't want to go through another 7 week nitrite cycle. Any suggestions?

I have a couple of males, which include two dalmation mollies and a black mollie. One male dalmation molly is always chasing the female around, nipping at her "behind" if that what you want to call it, why is he doing that ? Sometimes he is also agressive toward others, chasing them away. I assume the babies in the tank are his, he is the only one bothering her.

I have 3 comet goldfish and a moore in a ten gallon tank I feed them with flake foo and slow sinking pellet food anyway when I feed them the flake food,in an effort to prevent air blatter desies I grasp the flakes in my thumb and index finger and stick my hand half way down then my fish swim up to me and eat the food, even if I dont have food they like to come up and kinda suck on my finger (you know the way goldfish do)deos this mean my fish trust me or does it mean that they just want the food I have had them for at leat 3 monthes

Can Bengal Loaches or Zebra Loaches live with a single Rainbow Shark? I know Rainbow Sharks are territorial and can be aggressive at times, but will a Rainbow Shark bother either of those types of loaches?

Currently my RES is in a 20 gallon long tank. The bottom is completely covered with small river rocks. 1/2 is set up as a swimming area with about 4" deep of water in the whole tank. This side is where the submerged filter is (kinda covered but she likes to climb on it) and where her fish usually swim. The other side is gradually built up with river rocks increasing in size until it reaches the other side and has a large basking area that's big enough for her to lay on with extra room and 8" of clearance between rocks andlight. Her Day Glo 75 watt light is above this and produces enough heat to keep the water steadily at 74-76* and the basking spot 86*. She also has some Hornswart in her tank and some goldfish, platy fish and rosy barbs. On the water side of her tank is a 75 watt Night Glo light. Her Day light is on usually between 7 AM and 8-8:30 PM and then subsequently her Night light the other time. At night her water is usually about 70* and she sleeps in the water.

I had 2 fish and a frog in a one 1/2 gallon tank. The guy at Wallmart told me that it would be fine because the fish were small. Everytime a fish died, my frog got bigger. Did my frog eat the fish, or did the fish die because of cramped space?

it's a crown tail betta, and it wont eat anything lately and its crap is wierd and white, unlike my other fish. His stomach is swollen and i thought it was constipation, but he still poops even though it looks wierd, and i don't think it's his swim bladder because he's not swimming funny.

sometimes i think he's dead because he's not moving, and his gills are barely even moving so if you just glance at him you would think he's dead until you scared him. He has clamped fins too that he didn't have when i bought him in march.

He was in a 12 gal. aquarium with purified water, which i maintain well, keep at 80 degrees, and have BettaZing in to protect him since my last fighting fish died from velvet (The old fish had no contact with the new aquarium, so there's no velvet in there).

please tell me what's wrong with him and what i can do to help him.

I recently bought a 1 inch baby oscar (im not an oscar newbie so i dont need ALL the info i had one that lived for 10 years in the past it was my moms and i have a 4 yr old one now) anyway the petstore i bought him from had him in a tank with lights but the temp tank i had him in (30 gal long extra filtration heater etc) for about 2 months didnt have any lights. I picked up my new 80 gal and started cycling it about a month ago and out the new guy in it. at first he freaked out swimming weird and just sitting in the gravel and he turned from black to a greyish. so i thought my water param's were bad so i tested them and they were fine. When i turned the light off though he started swimming and acting normal again. Do oscars normally freak out over lighting changes like that? if not what could have caused it? other than stress from the tank move? Ive never had a fish freak like that over a move

I just bought a fish tank without researching any species. I have a 5 gallon tank with three yellow fish, two ugly fish, fifteen blue and purple fish, one two-foot long fish with really big teeth, and fifteen six-inch red fish. Do I need a filter or a heater? Can I use water from my toilet? Will my fish have babies? Will they have kittens? I know I could probably get professional advice from aquarium enthusiast sites online, but I'd rather get a bunch of random people telling me all kinds of different things. Besides, isn't a fish tank like a lava lamp, just a pretty thing to look at? What do you think?

...

Sorry, forgive my rant, I had to get that off my chest. Thank you for indulging me.

I have a 29g established tank I have 1 pleco, 11 neon tetras, 2 male guppies about 7months old each and 4 female gupies one 7months the other 3 about three months. In my tank I have three plants that are kinda bushy and one big fake bush. My temp is about 75 degrees F. I change about 25% of the water a week just sucking alittle dibrie off the bottom of the tank becasue my 5 ghost shimp so a fine job at keeping the bottom clean. I have the tank lights on for about 14 hrs a day. I feed them about 2-3 flake food and everyother day I give them frozen brine shrimp.

Even with all this I have only seen 1 baby guppy in the last 4 months. So someone please tell me what I'm missing, or doing wrong, or if I need to change somthing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated I'm only 16 so there's alot im sure that I still need to learn.
