You might be seeing black brush algae: http://www.aquaticscape.com/articles/algae.htm#brush

This is a tough one to keep under control. You'll have a difficult time removing it from individual leaves, so you really need to remove the entire leaf that it's on. Some of the Siamese algae eaters are said to eat this, but I've never experienced this for myself. If it's growing on equipment, you can soak the parts in diluted (25%) bleach to kill it.

Other sources link this type of algae to specific water chemistry - it likes water that's high in phosphates, but low in nitrates. The theory behind this is that with less nitrates for the growth of vascular aquarium plants, the algae is able to out-compete them. If this is true, using a phosphate pad to remove any phosphate while either using a nitrate based plant fertilizer (or reducing frequency or volume of partial water changes) might help.

I've included two articles below for controlling red algae (how black beard is classified) below:

if you leave your tank light on constantly or if you have the tank by a window where it gets a lot of sunlight it will grow the algae faster. you can look into getting a bottom feeder fish (there are many kinds) or a couple of snails (these are cool) and they will help keep the tank clean. if you do get either of these just remember that the algae the tank grows will not be enough for them they need algae pellets too.

this is normal.

the fish will also like grazing on it - but if it does get out of hand and really starts growing everywhere and messing up your tank, you can always try algae cure (buy it in petshops).
however, dont use too much or it will kill your plants as well.

algae will also grow very fast in well lit areas - if it gets bad, try moving the tank to a darker corner.
Snails will also eat the algae and keep the glass clean.

i'm to not sure appropriate to the hardy flowers for you, all my cichlids are plant eaters so I actual have all fake ones. I actual have heard Java ferns are stable, and likewise amazon swords, yet you will could ask a splash greater, I only be attentive to they're stable starter flowers. As for the betta, one answerer mentioned to no longer have them with the different fish, it is not completely authentic. I actual have heard many cases that they are going to do positive in a community tank, only ascertain you get fish that may not nip at it is long fins. My propose continuously is to invite the questions first, then purchase 2d, in case you maintain on with which you are going to be positive.
