I have had him for six months. He lives in a 10 gallon tank with three little tetras and an Algae eater. I have tested all levels and they are all normal other than the alkalinity which seems to be on the higher side. Anyone have some insight for me? He was goldish and now dull in color and he is also a blushing Angel very rosy cheeks>

Yesterday I bought a male clown (clowntail something like that)betta fish and my friend told me that it was ok to mix with my 1 kissing fish, but to let it float in the bowl for a little bit to get use to the other fish. So I did, and the betta fish didn't bother the kissing fish all day/night. When I came home 2day the betta was chasing the kissing fish and bitting it. So I took it out, and my mom brought me home another betta (female) its pretty little. I 1st put it with the male betta in the little bowl to make sure they would get along and I let it float in my tank. They got a long great. I then put the 2 bettas in with my kissing fish and the male betta tried to eat the female. He was chasing her with his mouth open, like he was going 2 eat her, and never bothered the kissing fish. So I had 2 take him out and put him back into the bowl alone. This doesn't make sense to me. If you know what I should do or have any suggestions plz let me know.

I am currently getting my masters in ichthyology and have been reading some of the fish questions on this site. I must say I hate how people are posting answers they know nothing about, in turn they get picked for best answer by someone who believes them. There are many myths about fish going around this site. It seems not one person knows anything about Bettas. Everyone keeps putting wrong information on them.

I have decided to post this question and give ten points to the first person that gets it 100% correct. I realize there are many species of Bettas each with different needs. I am referring to the species Betta splendens the most common one sold in pet stores.

How long do they live for, what tank size should a Betta have, pH level, water temperature, kind of filtration, need hard or soft water, salinity level, and high or low alkalinity.

Remember 10 points to the first person to answer it all correctly.

Has anyone been successful setting up a saltwater aquarium using live-rock as a filtering system? Without a regular filter. If so, how would I do it?

My betta is old and is dying now. I have a lot of experience with bettas but still I've never found a humane way of euthanizing them. The only instant death I know of is violent and I don't think I can do that to this betta. Please help me! I know he's suffering and I need to end his pain! Suggestions of humane euthanasia with things I have around the house would be wonderful. Captain America and I thank you!

I have an aquarium that I just set up, I have 1 bala shark, 1 black fin shark, and 2 rainbow sharks. Overall everything is going well and for the most part they get along well. One of the rainbow sharks has been chasing the other one since they got in the tank, and its been about a week now. Is this normal and okay behavior or is this something I should be concerned with? He doesnt chase any of the other fish in the tank just the other kind like himself. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

He seems to be off balance and really just sits at the bottom of the tank under the pump. Comes up to the top for air now and again.

I have a new tank set up,had i4about 3 weeks now.Anyway my guppies are fine, they are only about 1-2 months old.Is it ok2turn the filter off late at night and put it back on in the morning because since i have had them i noticed that they go2the top of the tank on a night (2sleep i guess) and with the filter on it seemed2move them about quite alot and they wud hide in the plants, so i tried turning it off at night4a couple of nights2let them rest properly, theyre only babies lol.anyway they seem2prefer this better they stay at the top together all night then i feed them in the morning and put the filter back on and they swim around active all day until bedtime again, they seem to know before i even turn the filter off that its bedtime lol.is this ok?they are happy enough with wat im doing.
Also..i wanted2put some muscle shells in my tank2make it look nice and2giv them places2hide,wud this b ok,i wud soak them in boiling water a few times2make sure they are perfectly clean and germ free.

i started giving him flakes, he eats them well, but then somebody told me that the flakes are no good because they get the water dirty. so i switched to pellets, but he does't eat them at all. it's been days, and the pellets are just floating there. is he going to starve to death??

I got a small tank and 5 fish as a gift a few days ago. I bought some water conditioner and have some flakes to feed the fish.

There are two guppies and 3 what I believe to be goldfish. They were fine the first day but now whenever I feed them two of the three "goldfish" get real twitchy and like to bump into the small plastic "pipe" for the air filter in a non joyful way.

Is this because of the food or could it be the tank is too small? Any feedback is appreciated.

Can you put in Atison's Betta Spa in a bowl full of 1 betta and 6 zebra danios? Will it hurt them? Will they not bennifit in any way? Will they become unhappy?

What kind of food can a betta and 6 zebra danios survive on? So far, I have brine shrimp on the list. Any flake/pellet that a betta and 6 zebra danios can thrive on with the brine shrimp?

P.S. Can you grow Brine Shrimp in those sea monkey kits?

I have a blue/three spot gourami (almost four inches) which has recentley become aggressive. He has begun to spar with his reflection and chase his tankmates arround, he has made it clear to all parties involved that he has established "his"territory in the tank. ( the other fish are perfectley fine) I am wondering if anybody else has experienced this kind of aggression, possibly as a result of adolescent gourami.
However, the issue could lie within my filter. Within the past week my filter has been making very strange noises. Two nights ago I awoke to the gourami with his aggression face on in the direction of the noisy filter (internal). This afternoon I did a "deep clean" of the filter and totally got rid of any leaves or algae which could be causing this terrible sound. Hopefully his recent agression will end with the annoying, disfunctional sounds. questions
1) have you experienced any adolescent gourami aggression?
2) could this behavoir be the result of the filter noises?

His tank just cycled. All readings, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrates are at zero for 10 days. His last water change was a week ago. There are three large plants and 1 1/2" goldfish in a 16 gallon Biorb aquarium. There is no cloudiness in the water.

If there's no ammonia or cloudiness should I change the water? Also, if you think I should, how much of a water change should it be? 50%? 25%? I know that with goldfish it is routinely weekly at 50%.

For the future, can I rely on chemical readings, or just routinely change water?
