I promise, if we get this tank set up right, I'll dance at all your weddings! Anyway, my 30 gallon tank will now have 3 rosey barbs, 2 dwarf gouramis, 1 tetra (need more of those), 3 mickey mouse platys. The 5 Tiger Barbs live alone now and the shark is going to the local community college bio dept. So I'd like a really nice bigger fish who can live with the others and I'm done stocking. What is a nice fish to get as I'd like to have at least one bigger fish? Thanks for all your help!

I have a goldfish which we have had for 5 years. He started off black and is now a goldfish orange colour. He has grown massivly in the last few years and is now approx 7 inches long!!

We have recently been given a fantail which is tiny. and the fantail is nibbling the bigger fish. Why?

Also, several of the other fish have turned a pink colour - why?

Hi! First off, I have a 55gal tank, two 15 watt flourescent bulbs (one on each side), a ph of about 8, 11 fish, including 2 gouramis, a pleco and a cory. It's a fairly newish tank, and has only been up and running a couple months now. I don't have any yet, but I have live plants on the way, which are some corkscrew vals, and 4-leaf clovers.

Will my gouramis or plecos eat these plants? Will this be enough light for the plants to survive? Will I need co2 or fertilizer?

More questions for the plant lovers - Would Repens or Arcuata survive the way my tank is now? Is Ophio Pusillus a real plant name, and how good would THAT do in my tank? I also want colorful plants that could withstand the minimals that my tank can offer.

If you have any other ideas on low-light plants, especially colorful ones, please don't hesitate to answer!

Thank you!!!

I was in a funeral home in Pahrump, NV and they had what has to be the ugliest fish I have ever seen as a pet. The director was talking with us about the fish and said it was a prehistoric species. It was at least 2.5 feet long and had flippers instead of fins like usual (The tank took up the entire wall of the office). It looked similar to an eel, but was human flesh colored and sat at the bottom of a take like a log. It was thick and shaped like a tube, as opposed to a sea snake or the like. Anyone know what type of fish this is? It creeped me out!

I have heard it is a difference between thin and thick. I adopted two 8" long piranhas and I am looking for more to breed them with. They have not bred (that I know of). They are both generally thick (about an 1" - 1.5"). The larger one has a low swooping anal fin unlike the other whose anal fin is not as prominent. I want to know if they are male or females so that I can buy them mates. Also, what is the best mix (more males? more females?) I want to end up with about 5. (They are in a 90g tank) Oh and in addition to the 8" ones I also just got a 4-5" one as well, will larger piranha's mate with smaller ones (given they are both over a year old?)

New to fish, I've recently acquired a 80litre (20ish gal.) fish tank and all it's equip. incl. 3 mature goldfish, from a friend going OS. Of which I've now added 3 small goldies of my own, that I already had. The tank was delivered to me empty with the fish in a small container.
I did a fair bit of homework, made some purchases, and gave all the fish a salt bath before combining them. And have been changing the water (filtered & cond.), about 10-15%, daily. Soaking their food, and keeping feed minimal. Giving them the odd fresh greens. They have an air-bubbles filter, and a water current filter.
I haven't got a nitrite, ammonia, or nitrate test kit, as they were quite expensive and I was told Goldfish were tough and wouldn't need it.
They have all been totally happy until today. The 3 mature fish are hanging out near the surface. It is day nine in the cycle, so I know things are near peaking in there. But apart from water changes, what else can I do?
What have I done wrong?

Hi, I have a Betta who's dealing with a very mild case of Ich at the moment, and has been for over a week now. I've got him in a 1 1/2gal tank and have been treating him with "Ick Away". (Just a few drops at a time, since it's such a small tank.) He can't stand the air stone I had to hook up in there because the side of the bottle says to have good aeration. I think I'm doing everything I need to for him, in this case...

Then just yesterday, I noticed he's got damage on his head! Like, the scales are messed up, or something. It's fairly big too. I'm not sure how it happened, wether it was actual damage, or if it's another health problem.

My question is, I know salt is benificial to bettas, but can I use sea salt that is rock table salt? It's the only kind of salt I've got around the house. How much should I use, and how do I go about it? Should I do a half change b4 I add salt, b/c of the meds? Can I use Ick Away & salt at the same time?

Thank you in advance for your help!

I'm really interested in getting a sabertooth pirahnah, but I want to know if anyone has owned one and if theres anything I need to know. I know that they're ultra aggressive, but I was wondering if they were hard to keep alive, if they can only have certain plants or if they are prone to disease. I want to make sure I know everything before buying an overly expensive fish.

I bought a 30 gallon tank with a 7" iridescent shark in it. Now that I have been learning some things about fish, I really think the shark needs a new bigger home. I have all the aquarium I can handle so I want to send him to a good home. Where do I start looking? How big a tank does his new owner need to have? How do I find someone? It's sad to see him bumping his nose on the tank sides all the time.

I have a 55 gallon tank and it has ick. I have used quick cure for about 5 days so far and they are still infected. I have done a partial water change and all water readings are good. How often should I do a partial water change and what should I do differently to help my fish get better? I also have the maracyn & maracyn 2. I also have coppersafe. Do you know which is better to use? Can I use them all at the same time? I just need help. I don't want to see my fish die. Thank You.
