i have found what looks like a small brown tic on my cold water common goldfish's tail, how do i treat this? and what is it? do i need to seperate the effected fish? do i treat the whole tank? its now off the tail but has left a flaky white patch and area looks bloodshot,ive had tank and fish only a few months, please help!!

That does really sound like fish lice to me too. I would suggest you treat the tank with Clout. It's my first go to medication for larger parasites, but there are others of course. You will need to treat the entire tank for several days to insure all of them are killed.

It might be fish lice. You can get medication from the fish store for it. You are going to need to treat the whole tank in case any of them laid eggs.
