The most common cause is water temperature. Check to be sure he's warm enough. His tank should be at least 72F and 78F is better. He could also be sick, but without more symptoms it would be impossible to say what is making him sick.

Even till today, I'm not quite sure what the real colour of my female betta is. She changes colour all the time. Pale during water changes, super dark blue when she sees the male, and then kinda light purple and dark purple fins when its feeding time. Usually its just cause the enviroment changes that make them nervous or scared, so check and see if there is anything different than usual.

i use to have a betta fish then i asked my vet and he said that when you put your fishh in a dark room or turn the lights out at night the fish will start to lose its color so what you have o do is by a tiny light and keep it near him but make sure the watt is not over 60

Betas need a special diet which has color enhancers within the product. Make sure you keep the tank clean so your beta does not get any illnesses...but diet is everything when you have fish. Check online sources for beta diets.
