Fish - February 2007

I've had bettas for about 2 years, and bought a new one two weeks ago. He seemed to adjust well. However, last week he stopped showing interest in food. He's pale, and his breathing is labored at times, mostly right after what I've termed a "seizure." I researched but found no instances of epileptic fish. The closest thing I found was Whirling disease. It is documented in trout and salmon, mostly in breeding facilities, but never a mention in smaller single fish. The "symptoms" that led me to Whirling disease are as follows:
-he suddenly darts around his bowl, making it three or four times around in under a second and a half
-he then "chases his tail," spinning in a tight circle
-then he just kind of drifts, swimming sideways, upside down, etc
-he noseplants into the stones or lays on the bottom and sits there without moving, one gill extended and mouth gasping
Eventually he recovers and behaves normally. He has signs of stress–pale colors, vertical striping–but no fin clenching. Help?

Water temp is 78 degrees. Eggs don't have fungus and appear to still be live.

I have kept the hood light off for about a month now. And the fish seem to be doing ok. They are all still active. Is this ok?? Or is it bad for the fish? Thanks

I have a 29 gal fish tank and I noticed it was getting foggy looking, so I vacuumed the rocks. Since I did that, it is still real foggy and it has a green tint to it. I went ahead did a 1/4 water change.. and it is still greenish and foggy. Is there anything else I can do? or can someone tell me what it might be?

I have had my two oscars for like 4 months now. Everything was fine, they would sleep next to each other, eat together, they were like buddies. Then one day i noticed the one hiding from the other and everytime i look at the tank the other one is chasing it. I bought them the same size but my tiger oscar is noticeabley bigger than the other. Could this have to do with why he's picking on the other or is this just normal?

It of course started out that orangy color and now it's starting to get black/brown spots all over it. Are they supposed to do so or is there something wrong with our tank?

I have a blue betta and a red betta that are separated in a 2.5 gallon aquarium. When I bought them, their fins were loose and able to spread out, etc. Now their fins look like it's stuck together and much less loose than it was before, and the blue betta is showing some yellowish colorings on his scales. The red betta has it too, but because of his red color, it's harder to see the yellowish material. I clean the aquarium once a week and it has a 2-5 gallon filter. I use spring water (not tap water). What is going on with the fish?

He used to be pretty active, very intimidating to the other fish, however now he stays at the top of the tank and his color has changed severely.

I have an adult Angel that was living alone in a 10 gallon tank, now I got rid of that and have a 30 gallon set up. I want to add another Angel- they are young when you get them and quite a bit smaller. Do you think the adult will fight or harm the younger one?
