I mean... how on earth are you supposed to get the fish to the vet in the first place, and what can a vet do for something immersed in water. You can't hold a fish in place. The only kind of marine animals that could be helped by a vet are much larger than anything anyone would have in a tank!

Hi, I have a 13" blue channel catfish in a 55 gallon tank, and over the past week he has begun to flip upside down and then right himself. It seems as if he is losing his balance or something. Other than that, he is acting like he usually does-he eats, and he never has any trouble properly swimming around. The problem only happens when he is resting at the bottom of the tank, which is perfectly normal for him to do. He just tilts to the side and then goes back up. I read somewhere that this is an effect of chilling, but he is a coldwater fish, and can live anywhere from 40-80 degrees, and the tank is about 64. He did lose half his right whisker in an illness two months ago, and that is generally the side he tilts over to. The levels of toxins in the tank are raised, but in a tank this size there is nothing I can do to keep them that far down other than doing a 100% water change every day. After all he has always had levels like that and he has lived for 2 years and has always been fine

The box said the heater is preset to 78 but how long will it take to get there? This is still day 3 so I'm letting the aquarium sit but if it gets to 78 I think i might be able to add a fish or 2 tonight.

I've had a marine tank for a year with a Brown-Banded Bamboo Shark living in it, she hatched from her egg in April 2006. My tank is 4'x18"x18" and has a rough substrate that looks like tiny white shells, or crushed shells. There is a powerhead inside the tank attached to an external chiller, a protein skimmer, a hang-on filter and an undergravel which isn't attached to a powerhead, just air lines. There is a small amount of live rock, 2 gobys, a butter bream and a hermit crab living in the rather empty-looking tank.

I was recommended this filter setup when I originally got the tank, but I would like to improve on the tank setup for the shark's wellbeing and maybe add a few more fishy friends. (I was hoping to add starfish but was told that the shark may eat them, can someone confirm/deny this?). I am also considering getting a larger tank, probably 6' or 8'x 2'x2'.

I'd like some suggestions, preferably from people with marine tank experience (not necessarily bamboo sharks).

thanks!

I have two small bronze corys and sometimes they worry me because they lay around in odd areas of my tank. I've caught them resting on the leaves of my plants several times. Now their favorite thing to do is squeeze themselves between my heater and the aquarium glass, lodging themselves in. I shake them loose with my net and they scurry off, but within minutes they go right back to it. My filter is running fine and the heater is working properly so I don't think there is anything wrong with the water. I just want to know if anyone else notices the weird things their fish do. Thanks

I have just finished treating my tank for white spot and did a 30% water change last night. This morning one of my fishes who almost died before has got a white speck on the end of his upper fin. Is this white spot? I thought they could not get it twice.

I have had him about 5 weeks, he has had no problem. I am just worried he is sick. I bought another fish 2 weeks after him that died. The person at the Pet Food Store said they " got a sick batch of fish". He looks fine other than the fact that he is eating , then spitting the flake food right out. The other fish that died had white spots. Any ideas?

Thanks.

I recently bought two female bettas with plans of keeping them together in my ten gallon with my three cherry barbs. While reading about betta care I discovered that if kept in small numbers female bettas can be just as agressive as males (My two females flare at each other every time they swim by each other in their bowls). It was suggested that the females should be kept in groups of four or more but since I already have the cherry barbs, I am trying not to overstock my tank. Has anyone ever kept 3 females together successfully and do you have any tips for keeping the peace? I may consider four female bettas. Does anyone have experience with small betta sororities? I'm having a hard time deciding what to do with the fish I have and the limited tank space. I also don't want my fish to fight.

I have a siamese fighter (red one) which has been very passive for the last 5 days or so. He seemed a little bloated, so I stopped giving him food since the day before yesterday (siamese fighters can go days without any food). I thought he had a little constipation.

This evening, his body started to turn very pale red and he is more bloated then yesterday. It seems to me as if he is not going to last long, if someone has seen this before or can give me advice, PLEASE HELP!
