Piranhas can be bred successfully in larger tanks. To induce pairing remove up to 50 percent of the tanks water, then add fresh water the following morning. The subdued lighting of the early morning hours, Will set pairs into spawning mode.

The male will protect the nest fiercely, the female will defend it for about 24 hours then will be chased away. If you remove the eggs the male will spawn again in 2 to 3 days, pairing with another female of the school.

A clutch of eggs will be between 500 and a 1000. The eggs will be transparent and golden looking. The safest way of removing them is to partition them off with a glass divider.

The young will swim freely from thee 8th day. They should be fed brine shrimp after the yolk sac is gone (about 4 to 5 days). The fry must be sorted by size after the 1st month and after 3 months their diet should be grated meat, and fish filet's.

Good luck
