I have a siamese fighter (red one) which has been very passive for the last 5 days or so. He seemed a little bloated, so I stopped giving him food since the day before yesterday (siamese fighters can go days without any food). I thought he had a little constipation.

This evening, his body started to turn very pale red and he is more bloated then yesterday. It seems to me as if he is not going to last long, if someone has seen this before or can give me advice, PLEASE HELP!

I do not think he has ick, because he had it before and lived to tell the tale...

This is something else, he just lies at the bottom, with his gills moving more than usual...

You are describing the symptoms of any one of several different internal infections. I really hate to break it to you, but there is practically nothing you can do. There are medicines out there and medicated food, but really they very, very rarely work once the fish is this sick.

I think you are right, he is very sick and probably wont last much longer. Sorry to give you bad news, but it's true.

PS: He certainly does not have ick!

Ok, go to the store and pick up some Fungus Clear. This treats swim bladder. Or, Maricyn is another that works well. This bloating could be caused by a tumor in the fish. And sadly, they will not get better if this is the case. I currently have 8 and I have had many before that have died from this. As far as not feeding him, keep feeding him. He needs to eat. Also, try putting him in the cup he came in, so he doesn't have far to swim to get air. And keep the temp between 76-82. Bettas need it to be warm to help with healing. And he doesn't have ick, because he would be covered in little white spots all over him and if that were the case, you would need to put medicine in right away, because this is a disease that pretty much eats away at them and once it gets into their gills or mouth, it can kill them.

Sounds like dropsy. Give him a little antibacterial medication (maracyn plus). Fish can live through dropsy just fine. Ick is little salt-like grains on the fish, this is NOT ick.

Well if there is any way he is going to make it, give him MelaFix and FungalFix (not sure the name of the second one, its the same for as Mela, but for fungal infections). And add aquarium salt which will increase gill function. Also be sure to add stress coat. And give him fresh bowl of water so he can have a fresh source of oxygen.

You should be able to find MelaFix at your local pet store or walmart.

I had a Siamese fighter as well, and i had the same problem. When i went to my vet, he told me to flush it down the toilet. I would get better help though, because that wasn't the most pleasant thing to do.

are his scales sticking out so he looks like a pinecone? that is called dropsy and its in his final stages. you can try antibiotic treatments.

if you think he just just bloated feed him chopped up green peas or give him epsom salt baths.

you might want to change his water and try to find a warm spot to put him.
