I have had him about 5 weeks, he has had no problem. I am just worried he is sick. I bought another fish 2 weeks after him that died. The person at the Pet Food Store said they " got a sick batch of fish". He looks fine other than the fact that he is eating , then spitting the flake food right out. The other fish that died had white spots. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Sounds as if the other fish dies of Ick. You should treat your tank for it as he will certainly catch it if that was the case. Look very, very carefully for any signs of white spots on your fish and be ready to treat asap it you see them.

As for the food issue, try swapping him to a different kind of food. New flakes, pellets and even some frozen foods would be a good idea.

fish play with their food like little kids. if they are full they will eat it and spit it out. sometimes they do that with pellets to help break them down -- its part of the way they break down food. but with what your fish is doing he has had enough so he eats and spits it out again. try feeding hiim a little less and he won't make such a mess.

Thats what my fish did. It depends what type of food he's eating. Is it the hard type or the flakes? Fish don't like all fish food. Try a diffrent brand.

Try another food. The white spots could be ick. i would say get some treatment from your pet store and treat the fish anyway, its safer than not treating it.
